A work mate from Staines said there is a chance the game could be on this Saturday providing there is no more snow.
85-90% of our Monday snow has gone. It was freezing last night and a dusting of new snow this AM. I don't know how good a pitch wheat sheaf lane is, it's right down by the river so could be either too hard from frost or waterlogged if its all melted. 50:50 would be my guess.

The forecast for that sort of area tomorrow is sleet, followed by drizzle, followed by a bit more sleet, then heavy snow and then one more dose of sleet.
I'm not too hopeful!!

U's pitch is still covered with snow. When it melts it will waterlog an already saturated & muddy surface. We may see another home game but possibly not this month at this rate. Still, because we are in a more regionalised league this season, I suspect everybody else has similar problems.

I think it depends on how well Staines pitch drains if its anything like ours it will be a mud bath, but if not and the snow stays away then I reckon it could well be on!

Anyone travelling by trains, if the match is on, on Saturday, don't forget there is egg chasing a Twickenham so trains via there to Staines will be full of drunken idiots!! Obviously they are no holligans because they play a gentlemans game??

Egg chasing. Is that when a load of shirt lifters chuck a funny shaped ball in to another lot of blokes cuddling each other and another one falls over so another one can kick the ball?out of the ground?

When I was at school they used to try and make us play rugby which was a waste of time as we put it on the deck and played football. It was not too bad just very difficult for the keeper as those eggs don't half bounce funny! We used to do the same with, basket balls, tennis balls even pin pong balls in fact anything that was round or cud be made round

That's the one.
But also a game where you can 'mike up' the ref so that everybody can hear exactly how he controls it, and the game where the players accept his decisions without question!
Oh for the 10 yard (metre) penalty in our game. No more backchat, no standing in front of the ball for free kicks, no need for lining up defensive walls, etc. etc.
Stands back and waits......

Well that law was brought in a few years back and subsequently removed very quickly as it rarely favoured the attacking side. However, I would certainly agree with Silverfox on the whole issue of footballers and their lack of respect towards officials. They could learn a lot from their peanut hugging chums - save for the bar-diving, drinking games and gratuitous nudity.

Never mind the oval balls...it's a mixed picture across the Ryman Premier this morning.
The matches at Carshalton, Wealdstone and Harlow are all off. There are pitch inspections at Heybridge, Billericay, Canvey and Horsham. But Dover and Maidstone are both on.
We await word from Staines...

spoke to Steve Cordery at 8.00 am this morning,he's at the ground, there isn't a lot that can be done aound the pitch. There is no surface water now, just a hard frost, that we hope will thaw out. Maybe only need a couple of guys to assist graham on the pitch, so if you've an hour to spare, pop down and see what Graham needs.
Message posted on the staines forum this morning.
