Billy, check out the history of play-offs in the Football League. If you do, I think you'll find plenty of examples of 5th place teams beating 2nd place sides who had finished a gazillion points ahead of them. And they get two legs! Plenty ? Please give me a few then. And Gareth i meant is a 15 point deficit the norm not the playoffs themselves. Anyway Sutton are where they deserve to be.I didn't see too much of the excitement spoken of here.I did see a load of rubbish games at the back end of the season though. The last eight home games saw TWO wins by Sutton - both by the odd goal.

Blimey Billy, you do seem to get on your high horse a bit if someone disagrees with you. The p/o's are hardly a new phenonenom and as I stated in a previous thread and has said before, each club starts the season knowing what the rules are, so I really don't see the problem with them.
They do keep the season going and irrespective of the performances of any given team in with a shout of reaching them, they do raise the excitement levels by retaining a competitveness in end of season league football that would not have been the case this term had they not existed.
I think you are a bit of a purist and a traditionalist when it comes to football and times have changed. One has to adapt to these changes are be in danger of being left behind apparently.

I agree entirely with Frakey on this one!
There's one other reason to support the play-offs. Although the general principle is that you earn the right to promotion over the course of a season, we all know that some teams start a season slowly but finish strongly. Others may start strongly but fade in the later stages. The strong finisher is probably better equipped to thrive at the next level up. The play-offs are a way of sorting out the best team to get promoted with the champions - not perfect of course, but recognising that sides change and develop between August and April.

Saw the Torquay Cambridge Connie Premier playoff final yesterday at Wembley, Torquay win 2-0 and it's hardly surprising since they've played the best away than all the other teams in the league and pretty bad at home. I feel sorry for Cambridge, they've looked better all season and all that for nothing.
