Last night was a really special occasion . The fact that the starting 11 v Coventry all played together again last night was utterly brilliant and the myriad of other SUFC legends who were there to play (and watch) equally so.
Anyone left in any doubt as to why us old fellas keep banging on about how that era was just the best ever just need to look at the following stats:
Trevor Roffey 109 Sutton appearances Robyn Jones 141 Tony Rains 722 Nigel Golley 680 Vernon Pratt 100 Paul Rogers 400 Micky Stephens 550 Phil Dawson 233 Lenny Dennis 265 Paul McKinnon 543 Matt Hanlan 211
and then:
John Rains 685 Bobby Green 186 Barry Laker 180 Steve Rogers 181 Mark Watson 250 Micky Joyce 415 Ricky Kidd 450
to name just the Coventry 11 and a few of the others who were there last night.
In the modern era where loyalty to one club is no longer the norm, those figures are just extraordinary. The fact that so many of those players went out of their way to be there last night also speaks volumes for our club in my opinion. Fantastic memories of a great bunch of blokes.

Well said AB. The word "legend" has been bandied around here recently but for me the list above contains those who really are club legends. A great team on the pitch & a great bunch off it.
I'm not saying that last seaon's guys didn't wear their U's shirt with pride but it was a different time when these guys played.
It was great to see them back at GGL and I particulalry enjoyed Joycey's second half cameo.
Well done to all last night. My only complaint, why wasn't I asked to ref?? No offence meant ADMIN!!!!

Well said lads! My eyes are watering looking at Paul's brilliant photographs. I was let down by a colleague, so I could not be at the game. What a team, legends all!!

Providing Paul agrees to use of the photos (I am sure he will ) then both the supporters and legends matches will be given their own permenant slots of the official website.

Reply to OS's earlier thought/question: 5 January 1991, Surrey Senior Cup, Ashford 1 Sutton 4 (Rogers, McKinnon 2, Dennis). That was before Ashford had lights, so it kicked off at 2pm and we wore an all pale blue kit loaned from Tottenham because both our strips clashed with theirs.
