Before the game I thought we were in for a dreadful match (hard pitch and strong wind) but in the end whilst not riveting I was quite impressed by the way, in general, we tried to move the ball around. Aveley were strangely subdued. As has been said, it should have been 2-0 and I think that would have more accurately reflected the match. Apart from one mistake, I thought Jason was once again very good, especially considering the difficult wind conditions. All in all to come away with three points was a good days work. As for the ground experience, well the width of the pitch did help to keep the ball in play and to be honest we have to earn the right to get back playing at bigger and better grounds.

Duno how the linesman could see that and what relevance it had to what was a fine individual goal by Sonny? Comfortable 1-0 win - if there is such a thing - they never looked like scoring. Sam Gargan worked hard up front on his own all match but had only a booking to show for it! Solid at the back and in midfield. On windsept days like these the game is often poor but U's played some good stuff in the first half and always looked in control. The ground was a bit spartan but I bet the view from the stand was good. All in all a good afternoon out. Well done U's. The view was really good from the stand and peaceful once the chavs had left after 15 mins. it was also out of the wind ;D

I think the Aveley keeper summed up the 'no goal' when he said to us he was baffled. Nice touch from the keeper. If you put together that decision along with a number of throw ins given the wrong way by the assistant you get the picture. Well done to the lads despite the conditions. Aveley must have been subdued because Alan Payne said to us before tha game that they were a really useful side.

Not a great game. Very bitty. But the wind blowing across and a hard pitch didn't help either side. Deserved the win, but should be putting sides like that away a bit more convincingly. Still, 3 points is 3 points.
As for the goal disallowed for 'offside'. Jesus wept. I'd have been upset to see a club linesman on a sunday morning make a call like that.

Good Morning,
OK, let's get the bit that hurts out of the way....the better team won on Saturday and as somebody posted, we never really looked like scoring and I too was surprised at the one you had ruled out.
Whilst assuring you sour grapes are never on my menu, may I make a couple of observations before I depart.
Os, the pitch is fine mate, Dartford or Kingstonian it's not, but it's been every bit as good as anything we've played on this year. The fact it is open and it was so windy did not help.
Neil - You say Aveley are going to struggle but you are only one place above us in the League, even though it's early. Somebody mentioned about how poorly Carshalton must have played well no, it was actually how well we played. Tooting were mentioned in a post about being a form team and how they would destroy you if you played like that. I assume that's the Tooting we beat at their ground a couple of weeks ago without too much trouble.
We are just not consistant enough.
I was surprised how lack lustre we were on Saturday and that was as badly as I think we have played. However, that seems to follow a pattern for us and the League in general. I have not come across a team who has looked light years ahead of us yet and I'm confident we can remain at this level next season.
Almost done, I hope you found Aveley hospitable and true to my words on Friday. I almost had to introduce myself to one of your female fans, a proper looker I may add and you did not have many of those, who seemed really excited by our tinpot ( she used those words ) ground. I almost offered to give her a guided tour of all parts of the ground ! Please give her my regards !
Any finally, the really good part of your win was the maximum points Sutton earned me in the Aveley Fantasy League. I have you down the win the League so a winning run from you will go down a treat. I also need Carshalton to pull their fingers out as I had them down as Runners Up.
That's me done, good luck to you all and I look forward to coming to your palacial ground later in the season where I will hopefully bump into that beautiful young lady once more.
Cheers Graham Gennings Chairman Aveley Football Club

I think consistency is what all the teams in the Ryman Premier (except Dartford!) are currently searching for. With 5 wins and 5 defeats in the league, we could certainly do with some! We look forward to renewing acquaintances with Aveley on 30 January. As for the "beautiful young lady", many from Sutton will know who she is - but it would be improper for us to identify her on a public forum.

Hi,
Not too much I can add about the performance. Was a bit patchy but we were clearly the better side and if that offside decision was made in the premier league, Talksport would still be debating it at Christmas. It was a joke from where I was standing.
Graham (Chairman) - I enjoyed my first visit to Aveley and don' think the pitch affected the game much at all. The wind may have been more of a factor but i think it unfair to blame the weather on Aveley.
Nice bovril and hot dog from the teahut and three points. I would have taken that as I set of at 13.30 to get to the ground.
If you take the Dartford performance into account more than the actual result, the last few games have been reasonably encouraging. Here's to a cup win on Saturday.

I don't know about beautiful, but I was certainly the one who did a little dance on entering the ground to celebrate its tinpoticity ;D If you are on about me, Mr Aveley, I am compelled to make two points: 1) Be aware that "tinpot" is a compliment We thrive on tinpoticity. The more tinpot the better, and I love your tinpot club shop. 2) My boyfriend says watch out

Although the pitch was not horrendous it was far from being the 'excellent surface' reported on Friday. I found Aveley friendly and hospitable and I particularly liked the lass serving the tea's Its difficult to judge a team's prospects on just one game and Aveley have been inconsistent (like us) but based on that performance work needs to be done to avoid at least a skirmish with relegation. However the side that has had some great victories this season would have no trouble in surviving, so its down to your manager to make sure the good side prevails. Still not sure about the car parking though? The massive grass area left 3 qtrs empty while cars parked 3 deep in the main car park? Good luck for the rest of the season.

I think we should leave off having ago at their ground. It was spartan, yes but we've played at far worse at this level and bearing in mind it hasn't changed much since the last time I visited that doesn't say much about those other grounds (Sittingbourne & Ashford (Middx). The main stand was ok and had a unique look - far more pleasing on the eye than say the structure at The Camrose.
I also think we do U's discredit by suggesting Aveley weren't that good. They've had some good wins in the league this season; perhaps we should be commending our own performance in the worst type of playing conditions, windy & bone hard pitch rather than having ago at the oppo.
No doubt Aveley will look to prove themselves in the return fixture.

Yes Sallycat it must have been you and I did enjoy your little dance. It must be an Essex thing in that if you say something is tinpot we deem it to mean rubbish, ''twobob'' or worthless. However, I shall take it with the good intent. I did have a glance at your boyfriend, hence I did not bother with the offer and to confirm, he was a good looking bloke with glasses....Am I right ?

Hmmm, must have been when I donned my glasses to read the half time scores... (many thanks to the man with the laptop by the way!)
