Then you'd have teams deliberately playing badly!

The World Cup is still a marvellous tournament. As a NL follower, I tend to forget the crap that follows the Prem Lgue & just watch my country's team pit their wits against the other qualifiers.
Having been fortunate enough to attend a match at the last one, I have to say the experience before, during & after the game, was fantastic. If only England could take penalties!!!

An interesting spin on the World Cup, if the world champions were on a knockout basis (more akin to Boxing really) Current champions are the Netherlands. Always good to see that even with this system that its its the only chance Wales have of being "World Champions" (Sorry Nick, couldn't help it!) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unofficial_Football_World_ChampionshipsAnd its own website www.ufwc.co.uk/

Fantastic! And amazing that the famous 1967 game between England & Scotland WAS actually part of the sequence of UFWC games - what are the odds?
They should definitely produce a trophy. Or a belt, might be more appropriate.

Odd, i would have guessed that the last time Wales were World Champions on this basis was when we beat West Germany 1-0 after the 1990 World Cup but it seems it was beating Italy in 1988.
Another entertaining Scottish invention.

I can't believe Scotland are the Muhammed Ali of the UFWC world. They're abysmal in real life.

Hilariously so in their last match when Wales blew them away.

Apart from Brazil/Portugal/Ivory Coast, they ALL look pretty easy to me. I don't see too many shocks in the group phase.

Bloody Blatter misbehaving again. When he saw the official world cup ball he said 'How can I handle the ball? In football you cannot handle the ball!' Why is this idiot allowed to run such a huge organization? I could do a better job with a blindfold on, earplugs in, hands tied behind my back and two five year olds strapped to my ankles.
