One of their midfielders has got a red, looks like this glorious cup match of epic proportions is just about in the bag. I hope I've cursed it now.

Aha os! Clever
Starting XI, Scriven, Hawes B, Hawes J, Kes, AJ, Cobbs, Hann, Phillips, Norwood Taylor and Woods Garness. Goodliffe on for BWG, Watts for Phillips and Gargan for Taylor.
I thought it was quite routine to be honest. Not pretty, and some of the 2nd half challenges from Tooting were very late. Red card was instant.
Norwood did a Mark Watson from 3 yards out (although to be fair he didnt know anything about it until after he made contact)
Bearing in mind Tooting were pretty much at full strength too, it was a good victory, albeit in a bit of a pointless cup. Regardless of this, a win is a win, and it would have done the players confidence no harm whatsoever after a not great couple of weeks.
Lets hope the predicted cold snap doesn't affect our trip to the season on Sat - the last thing we need is that to be called off and played on a Tuesday in feb!

Actually it wasn't a straight red. A yellow card was shown first but admittedly it should have been. This was a game of many misplaced passes by a Sutton team who until Watts came on lacked composure in front of the opposition goal.We had enough chances to win by 5 or 6 but managed to squander them.

Watts does seem to be stringing it all together for me at the moment, and seems the only person who can do this.

It was good to get back to winning ways! Although a run in the SSC might not be the priority, I reckon we can afford it. This was a much more open match than the recent league encounter at GGL, but T&M played a less defensive game on home turf and had to push forward at the end. Charlie Taylor scored another great goal - although the keeper helped by straying way off his line, CT still had to win the ball and direct his lob from a wide position. I wonder if Fawltytower will revisit this forum after tonight's result. T&M showed that they can knock the ball around nicely when they want to, but I hope his approval doesn't extend to lunging two-footed tackles. My criticism of Sutton would be that we should have scored more goals in the latter stages. With the home side down to ten men and pressing forward for the equaliser, we had plenty of opportunities on the break but couldn't quite find the killer ball. I doubt that we'll have as much freedom at Margate.

My wife could not understand it when i said I could not help with xmas shopping on Saturday because I was off to Margate so it had better not be called off. If it is, the nightmare of bluewater the weekend before xmas could become a reality. Well done to the lads for a decent result tonight.

Bit scrappy really. Misplaced passes all over the shop by both sides, but I think we deserved the win. Created more and looked the more potent in the final third. Could have been all over inside half an hour had the final ball been better and the 'keeper not made an excellent save from Sonny Cobbs header. Midfield was lacking a bit but I guess when you play Hann, Cobbs, Phillips centre 3, the back 4 shouldn't expect too much protection! As it was, Charlie got the run of the ball in a 50-50 with the 'keeper and stroked home from about 25 yards out into an empty net. Second half was a bit more even. Scrivs made a good stop from a FK that he seemed to see very late. Toots then seemed to lose it a bit with about 20 to go. Hartburn should have been sent off for a very poor challenge on James Hawes & then Nelson was sent off for a pretty shitty chop at Billy Hawes. Although quite how cutting down an opponent without even the slightest intention of playing the ball is only gets you a 2nd yellow card & not a straight red is beyond me. Shocking. After that, we flooded forward and could have added 2-3 to our tally, but again final ball or wastefulness in front of goal meant it stayed a slightly nervy 1-0. Decent workout though. And a new ground in the next round. Woo. The SSC just got exciting.

Oh, contain your excitement young Taz.
For any U's fans who got nervous when physio Bobby Childs was read out as one of the subs, that was just the announcer not reading the team-sheet properly, he transposed Bobby with that nice Mr Watts.

Win all down to me. Last night was first game I have missed since Hendon away in August. We won that too ;D Although the only other game was away to Horsham where we lost 1-0. My excuse for last night? Too cold and I had a deja vu feeling of freezing my wotnots off in extra time and penalties. Remember the cold at GGL for W&F amd E&E?
