I don't doubt the skill part, but I cannot be convinced that darts requires "physical effort". How do you get the dart to the board without any physical effort? David Blaine?

Speaking of 'alternative sports' is anyone else obsessed by indoor bowls when it's on BBC2? Seriously, sit there with a few beers at lunch and tell me you're not howling at the screen for the guy you've chosen to support to hurl the bowl down and clear out the lot. I'll get my coat. Yes, yes and yes. And yes again. Generally 1 o'clock in the morning for me though, and then I end up staying up even longer to watch 'Bowls Extra'. Haven't seen it for a while though, have they sold out to Sky?? Yeah likewise it's been a while since I've seen it on. The last time I saw it was early this year on the good ol' red button. I hope to some deity or other it's not gone to Sky.

Now that WOULD be exciting. Having a spot of how's yer father requires a fair bit of skill, and certainly more physical effort, but it's no sport.

If archery is a sport then so is darts. Archery is played outside though. Darts is played in pubs. You can't play a sport in a pub.

Archery is a darn sight more skilful than darts. They're bloody miles away from the target & have to fire it in the air so the arrow follows an arc on its way to the board.
Clever.

Is it buggery more skilful. Darts is a sport of mental and physical fitness, skill and mind-games. It should have been a feature of that damned London 2012.

I hope there's not a bowls extra to follow as I was up at six this morning (Monday) and will be again, erm, today.
