No, it's a "D", as in D-Day.
Same as the Yanks used T minus for their launch countdowns

TBH, it's much harder thinking up clues than I imagined when I started this I think I've got an easier clue for tomorrow and if nobody gets it then, a bit of giveaway for Saturday. But at least it's provided something to do with no footie to watch.

Its D-Day. We have signed Drogba. Dos is at the cup of nations discussing terms. Maybe we will make the play offs now

Its D-Day. We have signed Drogba. Dos is at the cup of nations discussing terms. Maybe we will make the play offs now I hope not. As far as I'm concerned, he's not welcome. But you might be on the right lines though - perhaps not Drogba, but.... Dundas! Big Dundo will be returning to Sutton, after a pair of specially-made shorts were fashioned from a circus tent??

At first I thought 'D' stood for Doswell incident, but now I think I know what it is but I am not telling you lot. I will PM CoSec instead

Got to be something to do with the Leeds United game!
The game was 40 years ago (24th January 1970)

Fatharrypotter is right, is must be Leeds. All the clues fit (Second set? - the score was 6-0, My first is in Carshalton, but not in Sutton - L for Leeds, All we are saying, is give us a goal - that's what the crowd was chanting, Larry Pritchard played). D-day suggests the club has some sort of celebrations in mind. Don't know what though.
