Not exactly "news" but I'm watching the Big Match Revisited on ITV4. Chelsea v Luton from 1977. Centre half for Luton that day was John Faulkner who of course impressed Don Revie when Leeds beat us 6-0 in 1970. He joined Leeds but only had a few games there. I seem to remember he scored an own goal in his first and broke his leg in his second game for them (or vice versa).

Hi davethegrave, you got the order right, but, according to Wikipedia, he broke his kneecap on his 2nd appearance ( he replaced Jack Charlton in both of his appearances ).......John played a couple more games for Leeds in the Inter City Fairs Cup , before moving to Luton Town, for whom he made over 200 appearances, before moving again, this time to the US in the late 70's playing in the North American Soccer League. After that he took up coaching roles.....Sadly John passed away on 28th December 2017

Dos' bad run with Havant came to an end today as they beat promotion chasing Ebbsfleet 4-2. Play offs remain a possibility.

Havant's fortunes have turned right round in the last month or so since Dos brought in 4 new signings. They are now only one point off the last play-off place with a game in hand - and on current form and with the squad they have, you would fancy them to make the play-offs. While you would probably fancy their chances against most of the other play off contenders, whoever misses out on the automatic promotion place out of Maidstone and Dorking might prove a tough obstacle - as might Dartford who looked at one stage as if they would be league champions. Sounds like Tommy Wright has been playing for quite a while carrying a knee injury and is likely to need surgery at some point. Havant seem to be more or less where we were about 7 or 8 years ago - with the same management team and some of the same players. I can see them maybe getting promoted to the National League within the next couple of seasons - but can't see them emulating our promotion to the Football League. With the top of the National League being dominated again this season by the big ex-Football League clubs with a lot of financial backing (Stockport have signed Paddy Madden from League 1 Fleetwood for £250,000 and Wrexham have signed Ollie Palmer from League One AFC Wimbledon for £300,000), I (sadly) can't see the likes of Bromley or Boreham Wood (or, eventually, Havant) being able to match our magnificent achievement last season.

Sad to hear Steve Mackimm has lost his manager's job after 8 years at Tonbridge Angels

A goal for Darren McQueen and 2 for Josh Taylor in Dorking’s exciting 4-3 win at home against Dartford on Monday.

A goal for Darren McQueen and 2 for Josh Taylor in Dorking’s exciting 4-3 win at home against Dartford on Monday. It was Dulwich Hamlet, not Dartford.

2 late goals from Chippenham ended Havents play-off/promotion chances for another season. They finish 8th.
