Andy, you are a top bloke and I'm not sure I deserve all that! I will think about that stuff when I get a chance (probably on the train to Chester tomorrow...) but I am definitely keeping a diary, which I will write up and let everyone see. Today was half disastrous, half brilliant. Got to the ground OK having cycled all the way apart from the Dartford crossing, but didn't arrive until half time because I got stuck in Grays for nearly an hour. I will explain this in due course One down, 20 to go ;D Did you get the PM I sent you? The club would be more than happy to cover this and follow you through the season should you wish to take the offer up?

Congratulations on the first ride. I'm looking forward to hearing all the details. How long did it take? What route did you use? How well did the Dartford crossing bike transport work? Sorry for being so vicarious about this but it's a great project. I suspect you got more enjoyment out of yesterday's trip than most of us who went by boring old car! I take it, you've now got the yellow jersey of the Tour De Ryman (unless we're playing in the away kit of course)

Well done for getting there Sal. You're still mad though.

The press love a story like this! Local, national, whatever. I'm sure the Metro would do a piece ...

I'm not actively seeking media attention, but if they want me I'd be happy to oblige. Publicity for the club and all that. Congratulations on the first ride. I'm looking forward to hearing all the details. How long did it take? What route did you use? How well did the Dartford crossing bike transport work? I take it, you've now got the yellow jersey of the Tour De Ryman (unless we're playing in the away kit of course) Since you asked: 1) It took nearly 7 hours, almost twice as long as it should have done, because I had serious teething problems with a bag I'd borrowed, my maps and my new bike's gears! All fixed now, though. 2) I pretty much went in a straight line, which is usually the best route to take by bike (except that my road bike can't cope with off-road surfaces, so no shortcuts across fields!). Worcester Park-Mitcham-Streatham-Dulwich-Lewisham-Welling United's Ground-Dartford-West Thurrock-Grays (don't ask)-Stanford le Hope-Pitsea-Canvey Island. 3) The Dartford Crossing guys are brilliant for cyclists. You just ring a 3-digit number on a free phone and they come and pick you up within minutes, secure your bike to the back of the big 4x4, and drop you on the other side wherever's most convenient for you (within reason!). 4) I was wearing pinky-purple, but I can wear a yellow one for you next time Thank you for not saying things like "are you wearing a helmet" and "do you know you need lights after dark" like some people have been ;D *waits for predictable deluge of silly mock-advice

I would have been happy with 7 hours without any of the problems you had. Top ride . A nice easy one for you on Monday.

Wearing ipods and ignoring traffic lights are the two cycling habits that really annoy me, otherwise I'll say the same! Hastings is the only interesting away trip before winter starts closing in

Blog is on the way. Just writing it now, in fact, as I'm not at work today. .......Just under 7 hours!!!!!...how long did it take you to get back!!! I do hope someone gave you a lift!!! Local TV Radio.....especially on your trip tp Lowestoft. Indeed, I am going to be very cross if it takes me more than 20 minutes to get to Mitcham, especially as it's only 4 miles and I won't be needing a proper bag or any maps (and I've adjusted the gears to my satisfaction)! Andy K, if you are reading this, I am going to be cycling past your front door if you want to hop on Someone did give me a lift home on Saturday, thanks for asking. The Other Half turned up with his car a few minutes after I got there, having decided that as I'd had a rotten journey up there I ought to have a more pleasant one on the way back.
