Efficient performance tonight - was especially impressed with Marvin tonight. Reserve lads did ok, especially Girdler who had a solid game in the centre of defence with a very solid Steven Old, who I think in the games he's played has been a cracking signing this season.
All 7 goals tonight scored by players who have been on Sutton's books, with Michael Abnett netting near the end to add to Jerson's.
Really hope their No4, Tommy Smith is ok - sounded like he's broken his leg, and those of us who were behind the Leafe goal when it happened saw and heard the agony he was in. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Job done, now for the Casuals. Their namesakes beat Chelsea in the World Club Cup at the weekend.

Routine win in the end against a Whyteleafe team now playing in the Kent League and who included several former Sutton players in their line-up. We started with three reserve team players in our XI and, once the game looked won, brought three more on.
It was good to see debut goals for Marvin Williams, Steven Old and, right at the death, Rhys Murrell-Williamson who was set up by Stefan Payne. Whyteleafe played the last 10 minutes with ten men as they'd used all their subs when Tommy Smith suffered that nasty-looking injury. Let's hope he's playing again before too long.

Yep thats hope the Leafe no 4 has a speedy rcoverery I heard he is only 17? But his age should mean a quick heal for the poor lad.
Our performance OK did enough in the first half really, MW I think has got himself a starting place and could be the one to start banging them them in for us? What a miss though from the guy making his debut who otherwise showed some good touches?
I am not one to deny Steve Old his goal but from my angle I thought it was a OG and had already crossed the line?
We were not so fluent in the second half but effecient enough and the reserve lads who came in did a decent job.
I missed big Wayne's save but we have it on camera so will get to see that later. For me the real highlight was MW who looks a great player.

They had suspected a fractured tibia but according to Lee Farmie on the Whyteleafe forum it's actually ligament damage. Hope he recovers quickly anyway.

That's right but hopefully he was wearing a number 3 shirt not a number 4!
Hopefully Tommy's recovery time will be minimised by the fact that, as you say, Tommy is only 17 and also very fit, playing as he does, for both the 1st team and the Whyteleafe youth team under Stuart Massey.
Also playing for both teams is Ollie Thornton (who came on as a sub last night). Ollie is the son of Paul "George" Thornton who some of the older U's will remember. Paul is Mass's assistant.
Anyway, I can't honestly say the scoreline flattered you. At least we scored a couple and had an enjoyable evening of pitchside tomfoolery and larking.
Good luck against Corinthian-Casuals in the next round.

We were either too polite or just lost for words...
He did get the occasional "Stodgy Keeper".

With regard to the injury ive got to say there seemed a very long delay in producing a stretcher.I know it doesnt come out often at GGL but maybe it should be more readily accessible on match days.
Speedy recovery for No 3 who was obviously in a lot of pain.

The stretcher is always pitchside during matches - it must have been overlooked last night.

I have to say it wasn't very nice seeing and hearing the guy writhing and crying out in agony for so long. Normally we have the St John's chaps of course.

As said, this was a routine win by a Sutton team missing many of the normal faces. Good to see Rivs get a good run out as well as having the opportunity to see some of the Suburban Team that have done so well so far this season.
They all did their bit to see off the visitors comfortably. Hope the guy who got injured near the end is going to be ok & I think he deserves an apology for the wait for the stretcher. No St. John's last night but can that really be used as an excuse? Well done to Millsy for reacting though.
Onto Casuals in the next round. What are the odds that the lights fail again?

Quick update on Tommy Smith: I understand from Twitter that he sustained ligament damage, not a broken leg as was feared at one stage. So, thankfully, not as serious as it might have been. Modesty forbids me from naming the Sutton fan who correctly identified the injury just after it happened.

Ligament damage can be worse than a clean break though can't it, AA?
