Time to begin planning for next season, play off hopes pretty dead now. Presuming we stay out of trouble at the wrong end what does everyone think we need to get us to the right end next year? Areas for me are as follows:
1. We should build our defence round Downer at centre back. We need to find a right back and IMO another centre back alongside. Rents good to continue. The skipper hasn't been as good as probably what Dos hoped, probably is a high earner and will certainly not get better next season.
2. Still require a ball playing centre midfielder. Dundas an important keep, Beautyman would be a good keep.
3. Need another wide player. Go with Williams one side. Could one of the young lads be the answer here.
4. Find a goalscorer, the hardest part. Again do we have a star young gun out there? We have gone through our share of journeyman up top, they rarely seem to work.
None of the above will be easy. Maybe we have a chance to check out whether 1 or 2 of these young guys has what it takes during the last part of the season and save ourselves a bit of cash?

3. Need another wide player. Go with Williams one side. Marv is not a winger he is a out and out striker

For once I agree with Billy! Third of the season to go. Some of our current squad could well suddenly pull something out of the bag!

Have to agree, a tad early to start thinking about next season, this league is still too tight to call.
As for Marv, with his pace I'd say we'd be better served with him up front but a right wide player has been a prob for us all season. So, if he doesn't play there, who does? 3-5-2 perhaps?

Looks like I'm in a minority of 1. However I think for the first time in a number of years we are not involved in play off/championship chasing and can actually make an early start on planning ahead. Provided of course we make ourselves safe. Anyone thinking we have any chance of making the play offs now with our schedule and current squad is living on a different planet.
I said we need a right back because we keep playing our best centre back and one of the best around out there. Boateng isn't consistent nor sharp enough mentally against better sides, though at times is effective.
Williams, I've only seen him out wide and I think he is a threat there. If he doesn't play there we need 2 proper wide players!
Just think we have a great chance to have a look at a couple of the young guys. If you don't do it now when they are flying and obviously good then when do you?

I think Boateng is an excellent right back and as for writing off are play off chances that is a little premature. We were dreadful yesterday but hopefully Dos will put that right for Tuesday.

I will be happily amazed if we make the play offs.
Having said that, I still think its too early to discuss next season in any kind of detail.

Judging from post match comments after Saturday seems like Dos is thinking along the same lines with taking a closer look at some of our reserve talent in the remaining fixtures. Wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 more are added to the squad (as well as Benjamin from Saturday) for tomorrow's match.

To make the play-offs we'd probably need to finish with 70+ points. We've currently got 38. So it would require us to win at least nine - more likely ten - of our last fifteen league matches. Not impossible, but around the outer limit of what we can reasonably expect. If we fail to beat Bromley tomorrow then I for one would concede that the top five is out of reach this season.

I remember last season Basingstoke pretty much wrote off their play off hopes and gatecrashed the party at the end. Even if we did, it's very unlikely we'd get anything out of it, and if we did go out, we'd struggle quite badly.
My take on this season is that many of the players coming in this season probably have not lived up to their potential and some of the reliable squad from last season have not performed as well. There are exceptions to this of course, and it's a little harsh to state that. But we really have been spoilt in the last 4 seasons - 3 play offs and a league title. So mid table would be a disappointment. But remember at the start of last season we'd all accept a mid table.
I maintain that really this division is Welling, Salisbury and 20 poor teams. Because of that I think we can sneak in. But we need to perform a lot better than the last 2 games. It's certainly possible, and bearing in mind we still have a vitally important weekend against 2 sides currently in a play off spot at the end of this month, there's still a lot to play for this year.
If other sides start blanking each other out, it could well be lower. 45 points still up for grabs!
