Another proud night for the club as the lads dug deep to pull off a fine win outclassing Salisbury and sHowing just how far we've progressed as we take three points off one of the top two teams in the division despite some atrocious reffing. Very early goal from Marv as he carved open their defence. Whenever we got some pace on the ball the Salisbury defence looked as vulnerable as the other teams we have recently taken apart. Sure, Salisbury had their moments but we coped fine. Second half, more of the same. Still a bit shot shy our lads but some of the build up play was sharp as you like and you can only admire the energy and fitness of this squad. The ref lost it second half, tackles flying in from them and no balance at all as he dished out the cards to our lads for tackles that they got away with. At some points he seemed to be running under remote control from their bench and i wasn't surprised when he blew for what looked like a soft as you like pen. Tom pulled off another of his penalty specials to keep it out and despite another dodgy free kick right at the end we held on ok for a superb victory to keep this immense run going.

Fantastic effort to dig out another win. A good Salisbury side despite resting a couple of their best players. Don't think we outclassed them, thought it was a good game that could have gone either way. We prob should have made more of a couple of counters by being more clinical but they also missed a couple of decent chances, one fluffed chance when rounding keeper first half plus the pen for a start. Entertaining game and full credit to all again! Very impressed with this run. We are now relying on the unlikely help from Truro to take it to final game but great that we have put the pressure on and made Eastleigh and Chelmsford really work for it. Not sure where the support has gone this year but clearly some have got into the habit of not coming. Only disappointing feature of last couple of months.

A really gutsy performance tonight against a big, strong and good Salisbury side. A fantastic first minute goal from Marv against his old club (bet he loved that) was to be the deciding moment of the night. After that City bossed the first half, not allowing U's to settle and with better finishing, they could have led at ht. One fine piece of defending by Elliot Wheeler prevented a certain equaliser.
In the second, U's enjoyed much of the first 25 mins and had the chances to double the lead. City finished the match strongly but a brilliant penalty save from Tom Lovelock denied them a point & the team's fine run continues, with arguably the best win of the lot.
As for the ref, well he was the guy who sent of Jamie Stuart for kicking the ball away & once gain he was appalling with the use of his cards & allowed the big Salisbury side to get away with a darn site more than U's were. He obviously just doesn't like us for some reason. Simon Downer's yellow came about because he failed to give an obvious foul on Marv and if he's going to send skip off in that earlier fixture how did their 2 stay on the pitch for 2 fouls, one which resulted in Harry B's half time withdrawal? As for the penalty decision, I'm not sure he had a view to be able to ive it. Apparently even the visiting chairman thought it was a joke decision.
Still, another excellent three points and a great way to end our home league programme. Really enjoyed the match tonight with both sides battling for every ball and trying to play footy on another windy football night.
Onto Bath and let's see if we can make it 8 out of 8. Well done to all.
Also great to see a few of the legends down tonight to celebrate Micky Stephens' inclusion in the legends club.

Amber April continues - that was our eighth match and eighth win this month. We had to dig really deep for this victory, with Salisbury showing why they're second in the table even before they brought Jamie White and Chris McPhee off the bench. It was perhaps inevitable that Marvin would score against his old club, catching their defence cold in the first minute, for his sixth goal in four games. After holding on to that lead for 85 minutes we then had to rely on Tom's heroics to deny them an equaliser from the penalty spot. Dundo had another storming game, but the whole team is now playing with real belief. The three points take us up to 6th, but Chelmsford's win means we're now relying on Eastleigh screwing up to have a realistic chance of snatching a play-off place. Whatever happens tomorrow evening, it's been a magnificent run and we'll have a great day out at Bath on Saturday.

How many penalties has Lovelock saved this season?
If Dover lose at Staines tomorrow, there is the possibilty that we can catch them (how crucial does that Dundo disallowed goal at Dover seem now?)

A fantastic and well deserved victory tonight to go along side the beating of Welling, Chelmsford, the moral victory over Dover and the win against Eastleigh. It was tough as expected against a good side, but in truth we were that little bit better then Salisbury. I don't think they ever really bossed the game as I don't think we did, but we were always dangerous and created the majority opens although we didn't make the best of them. I thought we were a little slow to get support into the oppos box and put the game to bed that our wing play deserved. Yes Salisbury toiled and should have equalised in the 1st half but we defended really well and as the match went on the only real variable was the referee who made a string of dodgy decisions even before what looked a very soft penalty.
As for Salisbury resting a few, well we didn't have Sinclair at all or Beauts for the second half, and have played 8 matches in 21 days and won the lot. No doubt in my mind we have on merit the best side in the league at this time.
April PLD 8 W8 D0 L0 F23 A6 GD+17 / First time we have won 8 games on the bounce under Dos and our best ever run in the BBS.
I know people mention the Dover goal, but Watkins had a good goal chalked off against Tonbridge I think, and the Maidenhead guy admitted handling on the line, maybe fate will repay us in kind over the next 5 days ?

Whilst I agree the attendences are a disappointment recently, it could be the number of midweek games lately, I for one find it really difficult to get to Sutton for kick off time. Lets hope for a better winter next season, I feel very frustrated with the number of games I have missed. Moan over it's good to see the team on the up.

Come on the Truro - is this payback time? Agree re the Dundo goal at Dover - so obviously onside it was expunged from the Dover highlights in old-fashioned KGB style. That goal is now serving time in a salt mine in Siberia.

I wouldn't count on too much help ! They have just suspended their top scorer for an alleged training ground incident that resulted in another player being put into hospital !

Too scorer suspended by club and a player in hospital! It is this kind of stuff that sometimes leads to a shock (siege mentality as per Mourhino etc). Strange things happen.
Back to last night and I feel that all the positivity, performances and goals from recent games was leading up to last night. Against a team that have been up at the top for most of the season, we remained solid, played good stuff at times and just shaded a bloody good game of football.
Am I alone in thinking that in the bigger scheme of things, promotion through the playoffs this year would possibly be a year too soon. Perhaps with the players already committed to next season who are really starting to gel , and a few new quality signings to add to the reserves currently feeling their way into the first team squad, we can look forward to a good pre season and a real go at it next time.
And hopefully a good performance and a win in the SSC final.
