If you look at like for like, the Skrill North fares better than the South - but then again there are at least 4 ex-league sides in there, whilst we have none I think www.footballwebpages.co.uk/confnorth/attendancesIf you take a little look at our league too, there are a few clubs like us, Stortford, Concord and Hayes whose gates are pretty consistent across all the home games we've had.

Salisbury hardly travel in force. I don't think away travel can explain away losing 100-200 people. They certainly did travel in force compared to a side like Concord replacing them! But it doesn't represent a loss of 100/200 to most teams either. It was just one factor. I think if we knew the reason, we'd be doing something about it!

It's non-League football. That term alone puts people off and as has been said getting those that pop down now and then to come back isn't easy. Too much 'better' football on TV that you can watch in the warmth rather than standing about in freezing conditions certainly doesn't help matters.
A few of my mates come along a few times a season and keep an eye out for our results but trying to convince them to pop along more often is nigh-on impossible... because it's non-League.

ok this is my view as a "casual supporter"
I support one of the London premier league sides and so only go to my local side Sutton United occasionally. If I am being honest I am more likely to go if the team is doing well - I attended matches during the great FA Cup run a couple of years back and was there for the day the team got promoted for example.
I have noticed that the team are again doing well this season and so have decided to go to the game v Eastbourne tomorrow. This is not the only reason though. I have noticed in recent weeks that there have been a lot more posters displayed around the town centre - something I havent really noticed before. This is a useful reminder to someone such as myself as to the upcoming games. On the other side I find the coverage in the local Sutton Guardian fairly appalling.
Anyway really looking forward to the match tomorrow - hopefully another win!

Thanks, I guess this makes you one of the target markets and would be good for the club to find a way of getting more of these types of view. Most on here are regular watchers.

As someone who has followed the fortunes of the club since I moved to the area in 1964 , may I respectfully ask that someone from the club comes on here and tells me why 60 year olds are asked to pay full price ?
Thankyou
Bill
I hope tonyd won't mind me using a post of his.
As a 61 year old I would point out that I can get in at a concessionary rate at Carshalton, Chipstead/E&E, Whyteleafe, Bromley/Cray, Kingstonian and most other non-league clubs. If we are in competition with other clubs for spectators we should give ourselves a level playing field.I'll be watching 3 Ryman League games this week, for not much more than one Sutton game.

Having just turned 60 i feel i should be charged half price. It's not a question of money as i can easily afford it , it's just too much and often not value for money. I hope this doesn't sound impertinent, but if you can easily afford to pay full price then what gives you the right to pay less? We offer concessions to people of pensionable age (which is 65, not 60) because pensioners usually have less money coming in, not because their age somehow gives them the right to privileges others can't have. Why should it? Just because you were born x years ago doesn't make you better than people who weren't. I know you are not saying it does, but I struggle to see why else you reckon you're entitled to a discount if you can easily afford to pay full price. I agree that non-league football is very expensive these days, but what does your age have to do with it? People of your age often earn a lot more than people of my age (about half yours ) because of your superior experience...where's my discount?

Essentially what I asked last time Billy raised it. However if all other clubs start at 60 (what is rough percentage? All, 3rd, half?) perhaps it is something we should look at if it does make a difference where people watch? Like Stewart says though if people had that much of an issue they'd prob just say concession anyway!

I have followed Arsenal since I was about 7, I watch every game they play but it is not the same of being part of something that you can make a difference in. I will never matter to Arsenal they will probably never know I follow them week in week out. At a small club like Sutton its a totally different situation I feel if I am involved and part of it. Does todays premiership supporter not see that or are they looking for something different? I hear about the quality of football but in truth England are suppose to be the pinicle of English football, yet they bore the pants off me?

Enjoy the game Steve.

Does todays premiership supporter not see that or are they looking for something different? This can often be the problem. Sutton United should not exist to be a "second team" or to make disenchanted Premiership fans feel like they are "making a difference". Myself and numerous other Sutton fans are Sutton United fans and nothing else and as much as we will always benefit and draw many good things from disenfranchised Premier League/Pro Club supporters who have found great pleasure in supporting Sutton United, this is only a short term stop gap. Our attendances will only really rise when our support is made up of a majority of people who only support Sutton United.

The media find little time for lower league clubs. They think non league teams are supported by old men and eccentrics ! I can't think of any ;-)

Some sort of presence in the High Street on a Saturday morning would help.Maybe a stall selling merchandise, handing out leaflets & two for one tickets. Its a big catchment area but lots haven't heard of teams playing below Conference Premier as their results don't get read out on TV or the radio.
