Near-farcical game, with the wind and driving rain making controlled football all but impossible. In each half it was the side with the wind behind them that fared the better. After looking a bit sluggish in the first half we gave it a real go in the second, but too many of our balls - particularly from corners and free kicks - sailed out of play.
A point on the road ain't a bad outcome, although some of the clubs that won this evening are now bunching up just behind in the table.

I've seen better games of football & had easier drives home but a good point well earned.

Christ, what an evening that was. While the wind never quite reached Daventry proportions it wasn't far off and at least that trip to Ford Sports was dry!
Fair play to both sets of players once again for battling in the conditions. It was always going to be Greavesies game of two halves. Perhaps having got one back against the wind on ht thanks to a brilliant Downer header, U's may have expected to go on and win but in the end Slabs got the final touch for an equaliser and U's found the home 'keeper in fine form. He was far busier than U's debutant Jason Brown had been.
A penalty and a wind assisted screamer had put U's 2-0 before SD's header from a well delivered Lee Sawyer corner gave Sutton more than hope.
U's had strong claims for a very early second half penalty turned down (or in the lino's case, totally ignored). Interesting that after the game the ref said it was outside the box but was less forthcoming when it was pointed out that he hadn't even awarded a free-kick. Still, other than that the ref did well to officiate sensibly in the conditions.
U's equaliser was heavily wind assisted as a ball from the left fell from great height and with speed in the swirling wind over the 'keeper and Slabs got the final touch. With Brown a complete spectator for the whole of the half U's couldn't get the winner mainly thanks to some fine goalkeeping and at times the fact that the conditions made control of the football impossible.
In those conditions an away point cannot be sneezed at and made the appalling journey home more palatable. For all those who traveled down last night well done, we must be effing mad!!

The guys who stood behind the goal must be effing mad After the Slabber goal, a well known lucky mascot was tossed in to the air and the wind nearly took it out of the ground

After the multiple postponements and months of anticipation, or something like that, we got Gosport on a stormy wet February night. I don't see the Us so much now (last game was Bath away) and the team has changed quite a bit. It was impossible to take a view about the quality of either team in such terrible conditions. I thought we coped better playing into the wind first half than Gosport did second half, which was one way traffic. Once we got the equaliser I thought we would go on to win it but as others have said their keeper was in top form. Work takes me to Portsmouth and Gosport fairly regularly but I have never been to Gosport Borough before and their grandly named GLP Stadium. The GLP makes Gander Green Lane (GGL Stadium maybe?) look like the San Siro. Basic might describe it best. Fair play to club though it is quite an achievement to reach Conference South level on what can't be a big budget. Great turn out from Sutton for an awkward trip on a horrible night.

I thought it was a lovely little ground. Weather probably didn't do it justice.
Edit: did you see the carpet in their bar? Awesome.

I could imagine that Privett Park is quite a charming place to be on a Saturday in September or April. Sadly we got it on a night where it could well have been abandoned. Awful conditions to try and play football in. Their 2nd goal was as wind assisted as Nigel Brake's comedy goal against bobbins a new year a few seasons back. Apart from that, nice ground with a decent amount of space, good old school stand (now Bromley are not the only side in the league still with wooden benches) and a nice atmosphere.
As for Gosport - to be honest, they were better than their league position shows I thought, and they have a very good team ethic. If they can manage the backlog of games, I think they'll stay up.
As for us - I think the difference in the 2nd half compared to the first shows what an effect the conditions had on our play. Felt a bit for Jason Brown - both goals we wasn't at fault for, and was pretty solid for the rest of the game. Speaking to a Gills fan tonight (and a Leeds fan too) both are pretty stunned we have picked up a keeper of that calibre.
I really hope Saturday happens. With the side we have I reckon there's a chance we could complete our first double of the season..we've got a stronger side there than before xmas

Dos's sides have a habit of finishing strongly and Bromley will need to be better then they were at GGL if they are to stop us doing the double.

I'm sure they will be better. Must be better than their showing at ours given their form and position. I'm sure they will fancy turning us over. Their home record is phenomenal. All that said I guess Welling were nothing special last year and comfortably won the league. Pretty sure the strong winds will still be with us if it does go ahead which is a shame.

Most of the open land in Bromley can currently be classed as a swamp. I passed the ground this morning and there was a torrent of water coming down the driveway. With heavy rain forecast for tonight into Friday, and then again on Saturday morning I would say there is little chance of the game going ahead.
