Did this just become a 4 horse race with Eastleigh and Bromley losing and Sutton and Ebbsfleet winning today? Nope - it's now a 6 horse race. Don't forget Stortford (who drew today) and Havant (who won today)- both sides would be higher than we are now if they win their games in hand (however unlikely that will be). Havant in particular who have won 7 out of their last 8 games. Huge day for us, with our win in addition to the two teams above us losing (Eastleigh in the last minute, which makes up a little for all the last min wins they've had all season). We're now one of the few teams who don't have a midweek game, although both Bromley and Eastleigh have one, whilst Havant and Stortford have 2! Today wasn't pretty - partly because of the rough surface at the Rushmoor, but a team of winners have to grind out results in all conditions, which is exactly what we did today. Job done, now for Basingstoke with a bumper crowd next week.

Jamie Taylor's fine volley that slammed into the ground on its way past Kevin Scriven proved the massive moment of the match. Shortly before Cloughie had seen a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity and from behind the far end there could be few complaints.
U's started slowly on the worst surface we've come across this season and I think FFC need to re-consider their priorities when you consider that bloody great white elephant behind the goal. The home side saw one effort come off the post and Berry's tame finish when through on goal easily stopped by JB. It was the lively Berry who Cloughie hauled down but it was U's attempts to play on the bloody awful surface that caused the problem, the ball skipping away from Dundo as he received a square pass and setting up the attack.
Second half U's probably had the better chances but Scanners,Binnsy (after an incredible run down the left flank) and finally JT were all stopped by the excellent Scrivs.
At the other end most of Farnborough's best chances came from set pieces but they headed a couple wide from good positions before eventually breaking down a defence in which SD and LJ were outstanding with what ended up being 6 mins to go.
U's hung onto a massive 3pts having played an hour with ten men. The ref was not the greatest and he missed Huggins kick out on Binnsy in the second half booking Binnsy for a foul. Shame about the FFC right back's temperament because he is a decent defender.
So with Eastleigh and Bromley both losing it makes it a little more interesting. All U's can do is keep winning but losing Cloughie for the trips to Dorchester and H&Y is a blow.
edit: for Berry read Sykes. Must check my sources more closely KBB!

I can't possibly see Havant or BS being involved given how far back they are. I'd say ignore them at your peril. With the form Havant are on at the moment, they only need a couple more wins before they are knocking on the door of the play offs, and whilst there is the possibility of them mathematically getting up there, then they are worth keeping an eye on.

As said what a terribly bumpy pitch with the ball do all sorts of things and bobbled and bounced in front of our players as they tried in vein to run with it. Farnboro just sticking to the simple idea of just hit it up field as hard as you can and then run after it seemed to suit the conditions better. It was never going to be a classic, but the goals came and exactly the right times, and in truth we were quite comfortable (as you can be) with 10 men for that hour. 2 big factors we seem to have is that we can score against anyone and fight like dogs not to concede even when we don't play particularly well.
I wouldn't rule anything out seasons can turn dramatically in March / April, we are relying on 2 sides not just 1 to slip up and we need to keep winning week out so its a tall order???

Fair way to go yet this season, but the force is with Sutton at the moment - unbeaten in 2014 with seven wins out of nine. Today's gritty victory was a contrast to last Tuesday's exhilirating finale but just as important in closing the gap on the top two. Ironically, we defended better after Charlie's red card, but our second goal gave us a cushion. Farnborough did finally pull one back and we had to endure an anxious five minutes of stoppage time before the points were in the bag. Our away form has been outstanding this year, but, with five of our next seven games at GGL, we'll be relying on home form to carry us forward.

Farnborough report on their official site: www.farnboroughfc.co.uk/2014/03/match-report-boro-1-sutton-united-2/"The Referee had no hesitation and the Sutton skipper was rightly dismissed following his 2nd Yellow in less than 10 minutes. He may well have regretted wearing a white headband/bandage, which, together with his lack of hair, made him rather too easy to spot. Having discarded the aforesaid headband on leaving the pitch, there was no obvious injury on view"No yellow for Charlie, just the straight red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. The author isn't to know that Charlie spent Thursday afternoon in A&E having a nasty head wound glued following a clash of heads in that morning's training but this photo from Paul Loughlin shows the fairly evident problem! flic.kr/p/kQvrVp Edit - flickr doing strange things with their links, try this one: www.flickr.com/photos/paulloughlin/13019715845/in/set-72157642069386553

This blatant dive went unpunished." Could be re-written as: Scannell, turning inside his man, lost his footing on our atrocious pitch. He did not claim a foul or a penalty. Our sorry excuse for a playing surface went unpunished.

Farnboroughs top notch PR machine steps it up a gear in their battle to win hearts and minds after years of dragging their sorry arses and reputation through the sewer.

I have to say I cant see any challenge from Cloughie, the ball gets held up on the pitch both players collide? I would be interested on What Charlie says as he will know.

The quote relating to Damien is offensive at best. He turned and was beaten by the pitch having kicked a divot. In fact everyone was laughing about it from both sides. He made no attempt to get a penalty nor dId he appeal for a penalty (he was p****** himself laughing) and quite frankly to suggest otherwise is a blatant misrepresentation of the event !

You can see why the ref gave the red but I'm not totally sure that their fella would have got to the ball before JB.
The highlights certainly show how poor the pitch was. The ball was shooting off at all angles.
