Havant played very well maybe the best side we have seen at home this season. However it was Sutton who had the clearer chances and therefore deserved the win. We now go second in the league

Great match. Both sides full of energy which is some feat considering the recent schedule.
Perfect start for U's with Kane Haysman starting and finishing the move to provide a 2nd minute lead. Havant responded well and forced a plethora of corners throughout the half as they asserted themselves on the match. They finally equalised from one such corner just before the break, although the identity of the scorer maybe one for the dubious goals panel.
Havant started the second half well but U's became more of an attacking force with Gav McCallum a lively presence. However it was a great cross form Scanners that JT met with a fine header to restore U's lead.
Havant kept pressing and U's looked dangerous on the break but it took until 5 mins from time for Dundo to drill home the crucial third. And there was the difference. For all their corners (delivered with great consistency throughout)and possession, H&W was up against an outstanding defence and a forward line that knows where the net is.
Of course we had to put up with our mate from Islington, who dished out three yellows to U's players as the Havant players squealed anytime we went near them. It's a shame when a good side that they are have to resort to that. Unfortunatley matey, who every time we have him seems to be reluctant to notice that there is another side on the pitch who also foul and is guilty of cautionable offences other than Sutton. I can't stand the bloke and I don't think he likes us either. It all goes back to the very first minute of Dos's first competitive match at Harlow with this ref and he has not changed one bit in the intervening six and a half years.
In spite of him it was a v good match and a fantastic three points against a v good side.

Couldnt make the game tonight, great result and looks like I picked the wrong midweek game as Tue was pretty poor stuff. Based on past performances its Saturday's game at Maidenhead that worries me, we have struggled against the weaker sides all season long and they will be fresher. However, another three points will make Tuesday's Brom-Eastleigh game very interesting for us so lets hope we can pull one out of the bag with another big effort.

I thought we were close to our fluent best tonight, with Gav McCallum's crossing instrumental in our goals. But H&W were one of the strongest sides we've faced at GGL this season, showing little sign of fatigue from playing so many catch-up games recently. As well as forcing some smart saves from Jason they won a huge number of corners, one of which led to their equaliser. But it's not by accident that we have the best defensive record in the Skrill South. That win completes our sixth league 'double' of the season - Basingstoke, Boreham Wood, Bromley, Chelmsford, Dover and Havant & Waterlooville is a pretty impressive set of double scalps. And it's great to be 2nd in the table. Victory at Maidenhead on Saturday could see us go top, although Eastleigh slipping up at home to Whitehawk is probably a bit much to hope for. Isn't it?

I agree with most that it was a great game. Next time I watch Match of the Day and somebody bleats on about full time millionaire footballers playing twice a week occasionally, I will remind them of the tempo of the game tonight by mostly honest part time players (I say mostly honest as I am not sure about the H&W number 4 who appeared to go down with some Sahara Dust in his eye to earn Downer a yellow card).
Havant were at times the most lively but much hard work and determination added to not a little luck at times by our defence, allowed us to make more of our forward play than they were able to.
Jamie's goal was very well deserved as he kept making runs and getting into good positions and never gave up. It was a cracking header too.
I thought Gavin was superb tonight but everybody contributed to a good team showing. Onwards and upwards and who knows what could happen now.

Dale put in one hell of a shift on Tue so I suspect he was rested with an eye on Saturday no? Same with Scannell on Tue perhaps.

As others have said we met a very good side tonight who at the start of the 2nd half put us under more pressure then we have been this year. But we have a defence which is the best in the league and boy do they fight to keep the ball out. H&W run out of energy as we scored the second, and from that moment on we got stronger and stronger, and I think we saw tonight why we now sit 2nd in the table. Ben King is a excellent find from the ressies and has made the step up without blinking an eye. I say it every game but a massive amount of credit has to go to Jason Brown, what a top keeper, and our push since Xmas has a lot to do with him coming in. Not sure why the H&W payers kept falling over? Not sure why theur guy wasn't booked in the first half straight after we had a booking? The lino with the yellow flag only did offsides, out of his depth. Roll on Saturday and see what 5pm brings

I have been to three games this season and seen 23 different players. This is not intended as a criticism , purely a factual statement.

Might need an adjustment on the official match report !!!
"Before the break Scott Donnelly saw a fierce volley fly just wide, and twice sent shits from the edge of the penalty area too close to Brown"
Made me chuckle....

Cheers KBB - I think it's very unfair that the i and o are next to each other on a keyboard. That'll teach me to load a report without reading it through first.

Went to the game last night Sutton played well they were pretty sloppy in the first half after taking the lead and I felt they needed a wake up call obviously the equaliser gave them that and in the second half and they played very well Scannell was probably my man of the match he was a constant threat and the main outlet when Sutton attacked,
Gavin played well as well but he needs to pass a little bit more when he did look up and played a super ball to Dundo who buried it in the net.

Some interesting comments on the Havant forum. It is very unusual for both set of fans to pay tribute to the opposition. No complaints at the result really (perhaps 3-2 would have been a little fairer). You can never complain at being beaten by a better team and probably the best team I've seen us play this season. Their workrate was exceptional and any team that can unleash Dundas, McCallum & Taylor is going to be a threat up top.www.havantandwaterlooville.net/boards/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4485&sid=fb15c7fae967ec50ee3cbc9da3c3bb89
