To give this thread a bit of closure, Met Police overcame Merstham 2-0 in the final at Kingfield this evening.
The Moatsiders couldn't maintain their recent heroics and struggled to keep the Met at bay in the first half, conceding after half an hour and then again just before half-time from the penalty spot. They battled gamely in the second period, but couldn't breach the stubborn Met defence.
Only £10 admittance, and a little piece in the programme, SSC Final Facts, from our very own 'Statto' Frakey!

350 neutrals,50 from Merstham & 14 from Met police is my best guess.A game too much for me !

The gate announced over the tannoy was less than 400. Whatever the exact figure, it wasn't a great turnout, not helped of course by Barcelona v Bayern on Sky. The huge majority were Merstham fans - probably about a 10:1 ratio. I would imagine their fanbase has increased somewhat over the last few weeks. Delboy's estimate of 14 Met Police fans was, in all likelihood, not that far from the truth!

Merstham web site was showing it at 414 ,hence my figures. Its very difficult for a club like Merstham to increase its fan base as its such a small area to get its support from.I'm not sure if they can go any higher but who knows.Look what Thurrock achieved and where do Forest Green Rovers get their support from.
Sutton have a huge catchment area if we can harness it.

Exactly. We're really not a club with a huge catchment area. It might have a lot of people in it, but it also has a lot of clubs and transport is easy for most people in London.
FGR are I think about 30 miles from the nearest league team and maybe 50 from a premier league club. There might be relatively few people in that area but there are probably fewer with real loyalty to other clubs.

That's the bit I disagreed with! The fact that there are a lot of people really doesn't help if there are as many clubs as we have in our local area. Our catchment area is shrunk massively by the presence of clubs like Wimbledon, Palace, Chelsea et al. Even smaller local clubs like Carshalton, T&M etc affect us. Which leaves us with a very small catchment area indeed.
