The good: a) They're a few divisions below us b) One of the sides which will get decent media exposure c) It's not Bromley. We always lose to Bromley
The bad: a) They've not lost all season and are scoring lots of goals b) We will be the side most neutrals want to lose c) It's a huge banana skin

I will miss the game too due to holidays. As it is an away game, at least Rambo wont tell me off for leaving the club short on the turnstiles!!
Tricky tie perhaps but hopefully we will be strong enough to come through it. An FA cup run would be very nice indeed.

I remember going there in the 90's but weren't we playing Enfield that day?

1st Round Qualifying back in the 1997/98 season against Cheshunt where we won 4-0 - that's what appeared on Football History Database anyway.

It was 13 September 1997, in the first qualifying round, and we won 4-0. Joff Vansittart did score twice and Matt Hanlan and Andy Salako one each. It was the first time since 1987 that we had played in the first qualifying round, as in those days clubs who did well in the FA Cup gained subsequent exemption to the 4th qualifying round and our Coventry win, as well as a couple of other runs to the third round, earned us a few years of that. We went on to beat Welling and Tonbridge but were knocked out in the 4th qualifying round at Cheltenham. Delboy's not far out, though, because we played at Enfield the following Saturday in a league game - both games were covered in the same travel article in a preceding programme.

Pretty sure I went to the Cheltenham game. Did we go down 1-0 in that game?

Actually the last visit to Cheshunt was briefly featured in Saturday's programme. Before that we lost in the London Senior by 3 0 in 1971 and 1 0 in the London Charity Cup in 1974. Both were grim visits for Sutton fans.

I believe both grounds were fairly close together and i remember driving up there two weeks in succession.

In reply to Delboy's previous posting re the grounds being close together, I've double checked, and unless I'm wrong ( might be the case, no doubt Frakey or Press Sec will correct me ! ), Enfield in that season were still at Southbury Road, so if you look on a map, Cheshunt's ground is north of Junction 25, Enfield's was quite a bit away South of that same junction ( I make it about a 15 minute drive from one to the other from memory ? )

I went up to see them beat Barking 2-1 in a league game last season - me and 37 other people. Pushing memories of Alton Town and Yeading to one side, this should be an easy tie for the U's as long as they play to something like their potential.

This will be the biggest game in their short history, certainly a potential banana skin awaits us. They are doing well in the Essex league and will be well up for it. Like any match we need to earn the right to play, rather than just turn up and win.
Somebody somewhere will cause a cup shock, we just have to make sure its not FC Romania.
