We've been Flipping robbed. If the team constantly makes stupid mistakes then what do you expect. 1. Alan's ridiculous 45degree clearance straight into touch - the throw-in led to a goal 2. failure to clear in open field by delivering a ball to the feet of the opposition midfield led to the winner BUT at least it was decent game of football for a welcome change

I can't say I blame you! Really enjoyed that game until the last couple of minutes. Thought it was our best performance for a while.

Jamie White looks like a good signing.I'm not too sure about Medlock or Wishart yet but overall the team looked good and we should have come away with at least a point if not all three.

Regardless of the line up, it seems there's a real pattern at the moment - giving away a late goal to change the match. I don't want to be too harsh on the side as today I thought we played with real purpose and as a side looked more together than we have been for a number of weeks. Jamie made a very bright start to his Sutton career, Billy had probably what I thought was his best game so far for us and was unlucky not to score and most of the others gave a really good shift and for large parts of the game we were on top. Don't be fooled, Bromley are a good side with a strong defence and we looked good in front of goal against such strong opposition. But the substitution of Southam made us lose our shape a little and the inevitable happened on 88mins, after 2 great saves from Julian.
Talking of Julian, both he and Wellard got some flack from the crowd today. I agree that Julians kicking today was very poor, but he pulled off some great saves, especially in the 2nd half. As for Wellard, I thought he had a good game in the first half - yes he did fade in the 2nd, but remember he's not played for 2 months so he obviously wasn't match fit. I expect Southam also wasn't fit enough to do the full 90 today either.
We stay in 16th in an odd day where Bromley were the only side in the top 8 today to get maximum points whilst 3 of the teams below us all getting wins.
I said back in August against Havant that we'd play better and lose. Today was one of those occasion, but we really need to see a game out. I thought both of those goals we conceded today were avoidable - first a needless freekick and we were caught napping at the back, and the 2nd was the defence failing to do some of the basics and clear the ball into touch - but there were enough positives to show we can do things. We now have 2 games away from the league and a chance to build our confidence up a bit and iron out a few more of those kinks. But when we get back to the league on 6th Dec, we really need to get wins under our belts. The way this league is panning out, and teams all getting points off each other, a few wins will put us right up there again. Draws won't really help our cause.

Some good 'English' football today, despite the result - some good passing possession from Sutton, mixed in with long-balls to mix things up - both sides hitting the woodwork too.
I like two strikers up front, but both are far too lightweight when challenged by big defenders.

Firstly it was a great game of non league football contested by 2 very closely matched sides. The reason we lost is because we made a couple of basic mistakes which does appear to be a pattern. When you look back you will see a lot of goals against simply come from the failure to clear our lines, and both were caused by that today.
Nothing much wrong with our football today, we played some really good stuff and tested a very well drilled Bromley defence. There are some mitigating circumstances, we lost Glen again at an important time, and Wellard who I thought had a good game tired, as did a couple of our lads either through lack of football or recent injury. If we can add fitness to the squad that will really help that last 20 mins or so, last season it was generally where we blasted sides (including Bromley) away, but this term we have tired legs at the same point.
Apart from the error for the equaliser Julian didn't have a bad game and made some decent saves, but you really have to look at our record with Tom between the sticks and Alan. Apart from the opening day defeat at Maidenhead, Tom has not suffered defeat in any of the 6 or 7 matches he has played. Yet you have to go back 9 matches to Staines in mid September (exception of Romania) just to find Julian not on the losing side??

There's not much wrong with our midfield at the moment, and for most of this match 3rd v 16th was an even and entertaining contest. But football is all about scoring goals and not conceding them, and in both areas we're still wanting. The way in which Jamie White opened the scoring (and his Sutton account), latching on to a ball that dropped in from a corner and hitting it first time into the net, suggested we may have found a solution to the first problem. But Bromley's 89th minute winner felt wearily familiar, as one of our defenders (I'm not sure which) cleared the ball straight to a white-shirted player. They had a lot of other players forward and pressed home the advantage, eventually scoring despite Alan Julian's best efforts to keep them out.
I've now seen 16 of the other 20 teams in this season's Conference South and I don't think any of them is much better than us. But if we keep giving away sloppy late goals then we ain't going to bother the top five. That's one win in our last eight (and that the rather lucky 1-0 at Farnborough). If we don't tighten up soon then it's mid-table mediocrity at best for the rest of the season.

Every week seems the same at the moment. Fairly positive performance until we score. We then drop off the pace and let the oppo back in it, before conceding another stupid goal late on. We are genuinely playing OK, but can't keep blaming defeats on luck - we need to stay switched on after scoring and towards the end. Basics.
Results will improve, but not without some hard work and some more concentration

Last season we finished this fixture the strongest, this time it was Bromley who did. Perhaps that had to do with having to take off players who had not played for a few weeks and therefore run out of steam. In Southam in particular, that was a big loss. He was all over the place in the first period and with Ben Gomis alongside, U's midfield was dominant early on. Billy Medlock really should have opened his account before debutant, Jamie White pounced to put U's in front with a fine finish.
Then we shot ourselves in the foot. Like last week, while it didn't lose us the points, the opponents first goal was a massive swing in the way the match was going. AJ should be thumping that ball long but in conceding a throw-in in our last third we gave a way free-kick and allowed it to be taken quickly for the home team to equalise.
I thought Bromley were the bigger threat after the break. They hit the woodwork twice and AJ made some decent saves. U's still looked good going forward but began to tire and in the end failing to clear our lines, U's paid the total price even though AJ made two great stops before the ball was bundled over the line.
Dan W struck the bar with a well taken free-kick but the winner came too late in the game for U's top retrieve a point which their efforts probably deserved.
For me, we played some of our best football of the season today and White and Medlock showed great movement. Ricky Wellard had his best game in a Sutton shirt while the midfield two did well, albeit, as a result for me limiting Dundo's impact on the match from the unfamiliar (for him) left flank.
Their two giants at the back played well though.
The crowd was recorded as over a 1,000. Didn't look it to me but it was a decent turn out from both clubs (shame about some of their younger element up our end in the second half).
Finally to the ref; other than leaving AJ lying on the floor after we had cleared the danger (he did that to Paul Nicholls once too) I thought he did ok today, booking very early for Waldren's poor challenge that left U's briefly with nine men. Probably the best performance we've seen from an official in the CS for some time.
We have now led in six matches in which we have failed to win this season. Maintaining the early lead we earn for longer in the game (getting a second preferably) has to be something to work on.
Positive though was that we are playing better each week but need to turn that positive into three points on a regular basis.

Great game of football yesterday afternoon but feel very hard done by to have lost that game which in my opinion and from the games I've been to this season was the best performance we've given. Thought there were numerous good performances from our boys today and gives me hope for the rest of the season - we just have to keep on going. Great to see White netting on his debut with a great instinctive finish, he looks very useful up front with his movement and touch and as Dos said in his interview he'll get better and better as he gets fitter, just wish Medlock had scored with his chance before we did score and how unlucky was Wishart right at the death with that brilliant free-kick that came back off the bar.
Still only 16 league games played so a long way to go but we really do have to get going if we want to be in the mix come late April.
Onto Hereford next week in the trophy.
