44 players used this season. You might as well start calling them by numbers. In 35 league games i make it 2 players who have started in over 23 games.
People in here have the gall to ask why the locals are not interested. The manager should assemble a squad next season and try and stick with it At least they would then get to know each other's names !

People in here have the gall to ask why the locals are not interested. The manager should assemble a squad next season and try and stick with it At least they would then get to know each other's names ! Amazing what you can do with stats. If you say over 20 games (which isn't a lot of difference) that 2 becomes 7. But actually there is a bit of a gulf between those 7 and those who have played in the early teens or less. And if you look at the line up from the first game of the season, only 4 players out of the 15 named are still with us. 8 of those were released, one was sold, one left to go back to France and one retired. And even when we have players all season, there's still a minority of people who'd spend the entire game looking for any opportunity to slag them off. Using 60 players in a season isn't a problem as long as there is a strong spine to the side - 6-7 players who perform as best they can week in week out. When we won the Ryman we used 35 players. The problem is that we've not had that core being consistent (and that includes players who previously have been the model of consistency). One could argue that a number of players that Dos put his faith in this season let him down. Because of the nature of the game at this level now most sides use plenty of players throughout the season - for better or worse the days. I remember the days when you could name and remember the starting XI. But then I remember when it cost me £3 to get in, there was a urinal behind the Collingwood Road terrace, when your only source of latest info was Clubcall and when there were wooden benches in the main stand instead of seats. However much we try or want, sometimes it's not possible to attain.

After 38 league games , only 2 players have started in 26 or more of them.Is this a "stat" or a fact ? Both, but I can give you a pretty similar response to Andy, a lot of the players that have only come in part way through the season would not have been able to play many of the 38 league games played so far, Fitchett has made 16 appearances since joining us before (and correct me if I'm wrong) the home game against Ebbsfleet on 17th January, since then we have played 15 more games so he has played in every single one. Alright similar to you I'm using stats to try and make a point that is a little bit skewed, but if you consider other players like Shaun Cooper who was not with us until October he has made 23 league appearances probably in less than 30 league fixtures. Then there's also Southam who has been suspended and would have played otherwise, yes that's his 'fault' , but doesn't change the fact that his absence was not due to Dos making constant changes to the team as you are suggesting. Edit: My appearance stat for Cooper probably includes cup games actually

By it's very definition stats are always facts and vice versa. The difference is in the framing. If you lower the bar by one in this case, its 3 in 25, 4 with 24, 5 with 23 and 6 with 22. In fact the same "stat" applies when you say "only 2 players have started 30 games out of 38", but doesn't sound as good in getting the obvious point Billy is trying to make.
So a stat makes a point, if you choose to ignore any other facts that go with it.

Just for the record , i did not pull those numbers (23 and 26) out of thin air. They were both the nearest to representing two thirds of the games played.

I'm just the average bloke in the (local) street , trying to explain what puts me off coming to more games. I didn't expect The Spanish Inquisition.

Sorry Billy but you've walked out half way through matches in the past because you don't like what you've been watching (your prerogative) so to claim the number of players used over a season stops you coming isn't totally genuine is it?
This has been a difficult season for many reasons including long term injuries to key players, the loss of form by other players leading to their departure and early season coaching issues. The team in recent weeks (that has been on a poor run) has actually been reasonably stable with regards to personnel selected. Dos has never been afraid to ring the changes when necessary - last season it worked so well, we lost just one match out of the last 21 in the league.
It just ain't happened this time around but there is a new season, new pitch and new club structure to look forward to, so perhaps you'll drop by then?

I used to like the days in the 80s where the squad stayed together and most of the players were local, but its not Sutton that has changed but the game itself.

One team that will be joining us next season is Dartford, the clash on Saturday between Alfreton and Welling will go along way to deciding if Welling will be joining us?
