1-1 FT Craig Tanner scored in the 3rd minute. Newport then equalised from the spot. However it was a clean challenge from Bray and their player then checked his run to put it past Phil. In the second half all three officials managed to miss Craig Tanner being floored by a Newport defender's fist. Shocking officiating.

Agree 100% about the officials, all 3 of them were a joke and a disgrace. How anyone could of given that penalty was beyond me, it was a fantastic, well-timed tackle from Bray.
Did anyone notice the head of Newport's 3 make contact with Gaynor's chest? Something else missed by all 3 officials.
On the performance, thought it was a typical end-of-season game for most of it, well taken goal by Tanner. We also had the ball in the net twice after, but1st time the lino gave offside, and the 2nd near the end, somehow the ref gave a foul against Henry, after he did well to chase and win the ball. Still it was a decent enough performance.
Oh and well done to Scooby for winning both the Supporters club and Strikers club player of the year award

The Ref spoilt a game which was actually very exciting. Even the Newport fans were saying how we were robbed with what was a great challenge by AJ. Although I'm not a ref, am I right that if that penalty was awarded then AJ should have been red carded?
Ah well, the home programme is done, with a draw against a physical Newport side, 3rd draw with them on the trot at GGL. With other results going in odd directions, next weeks game against Thurrock is a must win for them, as they have slipped into the relegation zone, and their game in hand is away to Histon!

Looks like good bye to Thurrock then!

Can only agree with the above comments probably the worst set of officials seen at GGL this season. Missed the pen but every Newport fan I spoke to said fair tackle, Craig clearly punched in the face. Newport physical and intimidating throughout offered no real threat especially second half apart from an excellent save from PW from a free kick.
The corrected scoreline today was actually Sutton 2 Newport 0 when you remove the officials influence which is then a fair reflection on the game. JH was excellent when he came on unlucky again no foul perfectly good run. We can honestly live with any team in this league, and IH deserves a lot of credit for what he has done in a year.
Well done Scooby one of the best defenders in the league and a well deserved award

posted on confsouth, may as well reproduce here:
In the history of non league football, never has a worse refree been seen!
Countless Newport fans concurred that the award of a penalty to them was the result of a clean tackle. The normally placid and reasonable Ian Hazel was driven to a half-time confrontation with the ref and rightly so. Absolutely shocking.
Sutton had three clear-cut chances within ten minutes and a goal disallowed for offside but did take the lead on three minutes.
The first half was littered with bad decisions which included the Newport number 6 evading punishment for a headbutting Ross Gaynor. The referee made what is possibly, and hopefully for his sake, the worst decision of his footballing life by awarding Newport a penalty just before half time, scored by Jason Bowen, 1-1.
The second half suffered as a result of the niggles and tension, however Newport fans' claims of dirty play towards Sutton should be tempered by the fact that the Newport number 6 decided to punch one of our players (Craig Tanner) in the face as the result of Craig's attempt at winning back a penalty to even things up. Again, this was unseen by the referee, Newport 6 having a 'lucky' afternoon.
I have to say that the game flew by, a draw was probably a fair result on relection however Suton had a further goal disallowed for no reason and Sutton keeper Phil Wilson pulled off a fantastic save to deny Newport a winner from a free kick.
No surprise on my part that the Newport minority, and it is a minority, had problems with some of the 'vocal' Lewes fans that we encountered at the 'Pan on our first trip there. Unfortunately a few Newport fans made the unwise decision to kick-off at a local pub, The Plough, and were unsurprisingly put in their place, prompting a reasonably large police presence and a bloody face or two so I hear. If there's one place loud-mouthed people of any description shouldn't go and kick off, it's The Plough, they will be sent packing with flea in ear. Real shame though as I chatting to lots and lots of great non-league regulars who had all travelled from Newport, they shouldn't be tarred with the brush of a few idiots.

Ressies drew 0-0 at Harefield.Basingstoke are champions therefore! Saw a Newport fan outside West Sutton station with a badly cut eye following some trouble in the Plough after the game!

I gave the ref a piece of my mind when he was leaving - which means he now has something between his ears. He didn't stay for a drink and didn't leave the dressing room until way past 5.30 which suggests he got a mauling from the assessor. He said he had a 90 mile journey home. I said shame it wasn't 500. The programme states that he works in fraud. Well, he certainly recognises a cheat, doesn't he? County have the games to get into the play-offs but they were hardly impressive today. Well done to Scarbs for his double award today.
Millsy, saw the Police Van o/s The Plough & thought, oh dear, here we go. TBH, the Newport fans - save the guy who went on the pitch when they scored - were fine today. But as you say, The Plough is not the best local to go into giving it the biggun!

further to that, and just to be clear, Sutton fans don't really use The Plough and weren't involved, it seemingly involved the locals/regulars or, as suggested on the Newport board, some passing do-as-you-likeys who may have taken offence to anti-English songs. The regulars in there will certainly stand their ground if they don't like something but you'd have to go some to aggravate them that far and I can't remember any aggro of this kind in there for a long, long time.
Edit - Landlord of the pub has said that it Newport fans fighting amongst themselves!

Confused to be honest. I was told before the game that a lot of Newport fans refuse to drink in our bar because of the way they were treated a couple of years ago. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Other than that, everyone was as good as gold inside the groud - even those that had to put up with me pouring them dodgy pints after the game!!
The news from the Plough isn't so good. I'm not sure of the exact story, but from what I've heard Sutton Police didn't meke the brightest decisions

The problem though i that Newport have had their fans issues in the national press & mud sticks hence the Police "not making the brightest of decisions" perhaps.
Add to Millsy's comment - I've never had a problem using The Plough but if Newport fans did start singing anti-English songs, well.....

Edit - Landlord of the pub has said that it Newport fans fighting amongst themselves! I don't know exactly what happened but that it was Newport fans fighting amongst themselves was definetely not true. From what i can tell one person made an unwise comment within earshot of the wrong person. They squared up then as is typical when people have been drinking the mates of the two people start having a go, it somehow got from their to some lads going to hospital. Were many County fans in the club bar at any time? because there 30 odd at the plough before the game. Some people were talking about not bothering with the club bar for some reason or another the other day but most just went to the plough because they saw it on the way in. As for the match, I realise you had every reason to be unhappy with the penalty but christ some people on that terrace opposite the stand know how to whinge! I know everyone is bias but yikes you'd think we were satanic.

Ah yes the moaning terrace! Yes Michael, the club bar was packed with Newport fans before and after the game until a couple of hours after.
