Have many of you see the news about this new owner at Billericay pumping big money into the club - they're reportedly due to sign Paul Konchesky this evening. A squad already containing Julian, Swaine and Cunnington (all signed from Bromley), Billy Bricknell's down there and they've just signed the winger McLeod from Eastleigh too.
Do clubs ever learn?! Wonder if they'll end up like Canvey/Grays/Hornchurch and the like from yesteryear.

Billericay's new owner, Glenn Tamplin, was last year leading a consortium that was trying to take over Dagenham & Redbridge. After a certain amount of agonising, D&R's Board decided they didn't want his money and so he's taken it to a different part of Essex.
We'll have to see how this pans out. Billericay are currently tenth in the Ryman Premier, seven points off a play-off spot, with twelve league games left to play. They've won seven of their last eight matches (two of those in the League Cup) including a 7-0 and a 6-0.

I'll wait for the inevitable "get rid of the long serving decent manager and replace him with a bigger name" - that's always one of the early signs of that route....
Happily Craig "Ming the Merciless" Edwards is still there

Happens all the time in the Premier league so we shouldn't really be surprised when someone wants to live the dream,

As a former attendee at Hornchurch Stadium, I'm acutely aware of how rapidly the dream can turn into a nightmare.

That's the thing - when these people get bored or don't see a return on their investment, that club normally spirals down and sometimes they are left with nothing. That doesn't happen in the Premier League.
Grays, Hornchurch, Canvey are some but you can add Salisbury, Weymouth, Lewes, Histon, Rushden and Diamonds, Darlington, Hereford....the list is almost endless...

No there is always someone willing to pick up the pieces in the Premier league.
The Doc Martens guy ploughed a lot into Rushden and they had a marvellous stadium and good crowds. Not sure where it all went wrong there as they should have been self sustaining.
I suppose you can add Margate to that list as well.

At R&D the ongoing stadium maintenance costs crippled the club.

If you build it, they will come. And knock it down.

Add to that Kingstonian in the early years at Kingsmeadow when they went BIlly Big Bollocks and sewed their seeds of their current crisis which will see them ground sharing miles away at the Head.

Gretna imploded fairly quickly too So sad what happened to Gretna FC, they were effectively bankrolled by a benevolent philanthropist (Brooks Mileson) who was also a passionate devotee of non-league football. When he died, the club the died with him. Give me a sustainable model of collective ownership any day of the week.

Even if someone means well and has only the club's best interests at heart, relying completely on a sole owner is very much putting all one's eggs in one basket. I wouldn't be comfortable with it.
