I've remained one of the more optimistic contributors on this forum for the past few months but for me it really is all over now. If we can't win the biggest league game in our recent history - or even score a goal - against the only other team anywhere near as bad as us in the league, we deserve to be relegated.

Still a chance if we beat Bognor, simply because St.Albans, Dorch and Welling appear to be every bit as poor as us at the moment - in fact all three are below us in the form table, just. Even if we sneak a win next week though, we're going to need some serious luck against some of the better teams.

I will do the stats later but I fear they will not favour us, the simple fact is that we failed to score against a team which has not kept a clean sheet since last year. We have scored just 2 goals in 6 league games neither of which were from what you call open play, for that you have to go back to Jan 19th. Unless we sign a experienced striker we will be relegated, because no matter how well we play against sides like Lewes or Eastbourne if we don't score we will lose.
Tonight I am angry at Mcbean he let us all down and although scoring for Eastleigh helped us today he could not be bothered to do it for us!

Are our strikers guilty of not taking chances? Or are our midfielders guilty of not creating them? Or both? Genuine question as I've not seen us play in some time...

Well, we certainly had the chances to win today. We started brightly and with a bit more luck and a striker who knows where the back of the net is we could have been 2 up inside twenty minutes. Forgive me if I am a bit shaky on the player's names, we don't see that many games living down here but here are some details of Saturday afternoon in Dorset. Stefan Ball missed a good chance from an early set piece. This was soon followed by a good bit of football putting a Sutton player clear through on goal. Sadly the goalkeeper made a good stop. Dorchester then got a bit of a foothold in the game as half time approached and I am sure I wasn't the only one thinking we should have turned our early pressure into a lead and could pay the price later. Dorchester hit the bar from another set piece and we survived a penalty box panic to scramble the ball away. At half time we probably deserved to be in front and Dorchester had not offered much. Things went down hill from both sides in the 2nd half. Loads of endeavour but very little quality. If ever a game looked like 0 - 0 this was it. Still hope springs eternal and on about 60 mins we held our breath as Stefan found himself on the angle of the 6 yard box for a tap-in. Unfortunately the tap-in didn't happen and the ball was blazed over the bar and out of the ground. It was the chance of the game. Both sides then had a few moments of attacking promise and in fairness our lads never gave up and finished the stronger team. I think both sides and both sets of fans were fairly deflated at the final whistle. I can not fault the effort today. AJ had a great game. Nicky Green was poor, poor, poor. Dorchester (apparently full time- what do they do in training!) were a very poor side.
Let's not give up yet. If only we had a reliable striker it would have been 3 points today. Finally, the Sutton fans deserve a bit of credit (not those of us who only had a 40 mile drive to the game). Plenty of noise and encouragement from the terraces throughout and the "jobsworth" Dorchester stewards were dealt with in good grace (well most of the time).

Well we should have won.We were by far the better team, created plenty of chances and managed to squander everyone.A certain centre forward from Ramsgate being the biggest culprit today.Dorchester were there for the taking and apart from a header which hit the crossbar were never a threat.

Very, very frustrating today.
So near yet so far. Steffan very guilty of fluffing two very good chances in either half. The second was a real bottle jjob, a tight angle but still meat and veg for a striker and he sent it out the ground. Hope it was a one off.
It's looking more like third bottom and hope for a club to self destruct now.
Great support despite wrong end supporters and muppet stewards but without three points today we really are clinging on.

Frankly, this insipid contest looked throughout like a match between the two bottom sides. If this is the best these two teams can offer in a vital fixture then relegation is surely inevitable for both.
The problem was plain to see in that neither team knew how to score.
Dorchester looked nervous at the start, and Steffan Ball squandered two decent oportunities in the first 15 minutes. After that, what chances there were fell mainly to Dorchester, but - apart from one effort that we scrambled away from the line - their shots were either off-target or straight at Kevin Davies.
As OS has noted, we've now only scored two goals in six matches. That's as many as Warren has scored in his two games for Eastleigh. Pause for thought, Mr Howe?

It's a fair point about our inability to score goals, Mr Aleman. However, I think it would be extremely harsh to criticise Ernie over the Warren situation (not sure if that was actually your point, or whether you're simply suggesting that Ernie needs to bring in another striker?)
Either way, Warren simply didn't have the correct attitude at a club who are struggling and having to fight for 90 minutes every match. It wasn't entirely up to Ernie to get Warren working harder and showing more commitment - Warren had to do his bit. Other players have managed it so if Warren wasn't going to, he had to leave. You never know, if he keeps banging in the goals against our rivals it could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Mr Howe! (although sadly I fear it's a little too late)

Awfully frustrating game yesterday, it seemed like it was a case of 'Can't score, won't score'. To be frank, we should of won it comfortably enough (by our own poor standards of course), but we could of so nearly have thrown it away. Positives include the performances of AJ, Karim and Bash. I think AJ has grabbed the opportunity presented to him by Lewis' tantrum with both hands, and has been really good since Boxing Day IMO. Karim looks calm and reassuring in defence, and has been a good signing. Bash again was strong in Midfield, and battled hard all over the field. I also felt that whereas he had an off-key 1st half, Jason Goodchild looked very capable in the 2nd half, and made a goal-saving tackle. There is only one real negative, in that we didn't score in a game we needed to win. Fortunately other results meant that we made some ground on that all important 19th place, but a point from a game like yesterday's isn't going to do us that much good in the long run (actually it could do us more than a fair bit of harm). I know it's one of those rubbish Football cliches, but every game is now a cup final. We're 4 points of safety (and when was the last time we we're 4 points off of safety?) and there are 33 points left to play for, 3 of those in Saturday against a team who are not really out of the dogfight can and will go a significant way in our favour. It looks bleak, but it is not over yet.
BTW I thought our support yesterday was superb. But our best moment was shutting that drum up (albeit temporarily until we were at the other end of the ground).

We might have earned a point yesterday but don't forget it was a 6-pointer - it was not just about winning 3 points, it was also about taking 3 points from Dorchester. As it is, we are still level on points with them having played one game more. So we're still pretty much bottom of the league and have the least chance of survival of all the teams around (above) us. I'm all out of optimism.

As has been said above, we had the best chances but didn't take them. Ironic, that given this result, our position has actually improved, but oh, for a goal that really would have given us some hope. Too late now, methinks.
Good ref yesterday but as for Dorchester FC?
No smoking in a near empty ground, not even at the open end. It's ok to bang a poxy drum like a demented moron though. Then all the crap over where you can hang a flag. I had my bag searched beforehand. What the hell were they expecting to find? Not the steward's fault but crazy club policy. Talk about taking themselves too seriously.

Sour grapes? What are you talking about? You're losing it Ratty. I suggest you stick to your own site mate, your comments on here are becoming more laughable by the day.
