Recently it was mentioned about the Amateur cup final and the team playing in front of a 49,000 crowd at Wembley. Is this the largest official attendance for a Sutton United match?
I was at Wembley in 81 when I believe the crowd was reported around 22,000. The match at Carrow Rd in 89 was played in front of a similar number and the (never to be forgotten) night at Ayresome Park the previous year had a reported attendance of around 18,000.
I know post war crowds were huge by comparison to today but also there may be less accurate counting of atttendances (unless of course Billy was there and counted the heads!!) but does any one know what is the largest attendance ever for a Sutton match?

I don't think anything comes close to the 1963 and 1969 cup finals.
Yet.......

We reportedly took some 20000 to Wembley in 1963 if my memory serves me correctly.

I was at Wembley in 1969.There was a large crowd but unlike nowadays they didn't add on 300/400 invisible supporters...............

Wasn't the third Wembley appearance - the one you haven't mentioned - something like 55,000 or is that my imagination?

Of our three Wembley finals 1963 was the largest attendance, 1981 the smallest

I think a bit of recycling is called for here. Below is a post from a couple of years ago:
************************************************************* The games that I'm aware of which attracted five-figure gates are as follows: 47,500 - North Shields v SUFC, 1969 Amateur Cup Final 45,000 - Wimbledon v SUFC, 1963 Amateur Cup Final 23,073 - Norwich City v SUFC, 88/89 F.A. Cup 4th Round 22,578 - Bishop's Stortford v SUFC, 1981 F.A. Trophy Final 17,932 - Middlesbrough v SUFC, 87/88 F.A. Cup 3rd Round Replay 14,000 - SUFC v Leeds Utd, 69/70- F.A. Cup 4th Round 12,000 - Dulwich Hamlet v SUFC, 35/36 Surrey Senior Cup Replay
*************************************************************
Frakey might well be aware of some others.

Biggest crowd at GGL is 14,000 against Leeds in 1970 and is the biggest crowd that a Sutton team have played in front of at home territory!

I have a dvd of the game which I picked up when I went to North Shields a couple of years ago. Not great quality but the last one they had.
