A good first test for our boys yesterday to kick off the pre-season schedule. I thought we looked very good first half with Wish particularly impressing on his return and as already mentioned the boy Ayunga up front (who reappeared as centre-back in the second half - hopefully we get another look at him next weekend).
It was good to see the academy lads given a chance in the second half - I know Lema was the right back but for the other two I’m not sure who was Green and who was Henry.
Onto Woking next weekend.

Carl Henry was the shorter lad without a number on his back.

He’s definitely one to watch out for, paired with TW I reckon we’d have the shortest but most lethal strike force in the league !

It's all gone rather quiet on here. Has something else been happening today? Never mind the heat at some of the World Cup venues, it was close to 30C at GGL this afternoon and so credit goes to both sets of players for producing a half-decent game of football. Even allowing for the comedy own goal, 2-0 didn't flatter Sutton against a side who have just won the League Two play-offs. Coventry may not have been at full strength, but neither were we, with both Tommy Wright and Kenny Davis missing from the squad. And the visitors, of course, had a deeper pool of players to draw on when the inevitable second-half substitutions were made. So a very encouraging start to our pre-season. As Trev mentioned, Jonah Ayunga was a real handful for the Coventry defence. If Dos has managed to sign him from Brighton, I can see him being a huge hitter in the National League. Jonah Ayunga was released by Brighton recently.

PSF's. What can you glean from them? Well, Saturday was certainly a test of the fitness of players as 30c temperatures made for uncomfortable viewing conditions, let alone running about in it. I think, U's passed that test pretty well and were the dominant force throughout.
Not sure what sort of Coventry team(s) we were up against so not always easy to judge but we knocked the ball around well and made plenty of chances. Dan Wishart looked strong and quick, Jonah did well in the two positions he played in but hats off to all who contributed for providing a competitive edge on such a hot day.

First game back - and it was good to be back too. Bearing in mind the conditions I thought as PSF goes it was pretty good. I think that's half of our competitive friendlies done (with the other being Woking next Saturday, which could possibly co-incide with an England 3rd play play off game - let's hope England are not playing on Saturday for everyone's sake!) it gave a good indication to how the team is shaping up and it's pretty obvious to see that the continuity from last season means we're probably a couple of weeks ahead of where we would normally be in terms of pre season preparation - even more so thanks to 2 of the 3 new signed players coming back to familiar surroundings.

Not sure what sort of Coventry team(s) we were up against Over the two sides Coventry fielded on Saturday, 12 players were part of the squad that beat Exeter in the League Two play-off final back in May.
