It's not often that I find anything to moan about regarding SUFC but I must comment on tonight's catering. I queued for fifteen minutes at the bar for a pre-match drink before giving up (four deep). Decided to skip the last five minutes of the first half and ventured into the bar again. Only two deep this time, but again waited fifteen minutes, most of that time at the front and seemingly invisible. Gave up again. The second half starts and I pay a visit to Rosie's for a soft drink only to find that everything is warm. I'm sure there were good reasons, but I know I was not the only one disappointed tonight. Thanks for listening - I feel better now. The three points helped!

I had the same problems. why get a brand new air conditioned bar and not open it for the first game of the season ?? there were some Eastleigh fans moaning behind me, and I had to agree with them I'm afraid. maybe the bars are going to be extra busy now that the Plough has closed permanently ?

You must remember this is still a family holiday season so there maybe staffing problems. I'm sure all will be back to normal in the next few weeks.

It did seem rather harsh on the bar staff to make them sweat in the confined environs of the Players' Lounge, when they would have been far more comfortable working in the the invigoratingly air conditioned Times Square Bar. They were clearly suffering yesterday in rather oppressive conditions. Hopefully common sense will prevail for future home games...

There actually is a good reason for opening the players' bar rather than the Times Square Lounge. The bar in the former also serves the VPs lounge, which doesn't have quite enough traffic to justify having a dedicated member of staff. So the best way to manage that is for the VPs to share staff with the players bar.
Unfortunately there isn't really space behind that bar to safely increase the staffing levels.

I must admit I didn't consider that. Maybe we could get some air con in the Players' Lounge. A nice run in the Irn Bru cup could see to that...

I heard of another reason - there was an explosion in the cellar. This was reported to the Stadium Club manager who was next to me. I believe it was a keg, but don't know for certain. The cellar is on the ground level behind the bars, and this would have taken staff from the counter to fix it. Well before this - just after the bar opened - the real ales were pumping very slowly and with a lot of head, taking more staff time.

Ah, that would explain a lot. All credit to our bar staff for coping with this.

I take it all back! (Apart from the warm soft drinks at Rosie's).

It may be the case that the hall was being used. I know that if they were able to open that bar, myself and other staff would have been available to work if asked. I do feel that we need to take advantage of The Plough being closed and consider opening a bit earlier on match days, especially on a Saturday.

Not exactly catering but I didn't want to start a thread on this specifically.
I notice the new Gender fluid toilets near to Rose's Tea Hut. A new "Ladies"sign on the door with urinals inside!
