Hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice so i'll start this match thread. Home games against bottom teams on a Tuesday night have never been our strong point but i'm sure the team will be up for this one. I'd like us to go with the same team that started against Wrexham but maybe with Leyton Orient on the horizon Dos will change one or two.

It's worth noting that although we are only three points off 2nd place, at least two teams above us are certain to pick up points tomorrow assuming the games all go ahead, because we have Harrogate playing Wrexham (2nd v 3rd) and Salford v Hartlepool (4th v 5th). Also, while it's possible for us to equal Harrogate's points tally, it would require a very large number of goals to catch up with their goal difference!
If my calculations are correct then the highest we can possibly go tomorrow is 4th.

Dover have yet to win away (four defeats, two draws) and have only scored three away goals, the last of those back on 11 August! But Dos won't be fooled by stats. We know the way that Chris Kinnear sets up his sides, and that they're always awkward opponents. After the Boreham Wood debacle there should be no place for complacency. This could be rather like the Eastleigh game last month, and I'd settle for the same result.

After what happened in this fixture last season (also a Tuesday night I think) I certainly won’t be leaving until the final whistle has blown !

The first 30 minutes was a continuation of the Wrexham performance and the final 60 looked like the Boreham Wood game all over again. Shouldn’t be dropping points to teams as poor as that at home

2 points dropped tonight 🙄. A single point return from home games against Boreham Wood and Dover is not great is it.,
Did Collins’ injury look bad?!

The first 30 minutes was a continuation of the Wrexham performance and the final 60 looked like the Boreham Wood game all over again. Shouldn’t be dropping points to teams as poor as that at home Inevitably if you defend for 45 minutes playing into a tall sides hands by hitting the ball forward in the air, losing possession cheaply, giving away free kicks and throws in your own half eventually one will go in. We were trying to hang on for the entire second half. Losing Collins sucked all of the confidence out of the team and the substitutions made no difference.

The turning-point in this match came when JC left the field of play ten minutes before half-time (to be replaced by Dean Beckwith). 2-0 up at that stage, through Craig Eastmond's second bite at the cherry and Nicky Bailey's header, we looked capable of reversing the 0-6 that Dover handed to us two seasons ago. Afterwards we struggled to keep the ball, repeatedly inviting an aerial bombardment from their long throws and free kicks. It's hard to explain how the departure of one player, albeit an influential skipper, should have had such a deleterious effect on the team, but that's what happened. The penalty for handball (which looked harsh) brought Dover back into the game before the interval and gave them a purpose that they'd previously lacked. Dos made changes, bringing on Josh Taylor and Aaron Drinan for Brown and Bolarinwa, but to little effect. Dover struck the bar in one attack, then gave us false hope when Barawan international Aryan "23 clubs" Tajbakhsh got himself sent off for tangling with Bailey. With echoes of the conclusion to last season's 2-2, Dover grabbed a late equaliser from a centre back's header.
I gather from post-match discussions in the bar that Jamie went off after feeling a tightness in his calf. I got the impression that he's about 50-50 for Saturday.
We stay 7th in the table.

We have an excellent team. Unfortunately when you have the quality we do and have set the bar high you obviously become open to criticism when not reaching your level. Dover were very nearly dead, finished, done at 2-0. You couldn’t see anything but a comfortable win.
But football is a funny old game. They got a stroke of luck with a penalty and that gave them a huge lift. I say luck because it is just natural at point blank range for hands to go up towards your face. Now they are given as pens for hands not being not pinned to sides. Not much you can do and we’ll get a couple similarly at the other end over the season. From that point on we let them back in.
Biggest disappointment with the quality and experience in the side is no one took the game by the scruff of the neck and controlled it. Crying out for a couple of guys to get the side together, make the pitch big and pass the ball. Zero bravery to want and use the ball. 2nd half was beyond poor. Fruitlessly getting involved in an arm wrestle smashing long balls up to their huge guys at the back. Inevitably led to them winning I and doing likewise and from there launching long throws and set pieces into our box. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt the game was slipping to an inevitable draw. Awful half of football.
I’m not sure whether Dover fans will be happy or not?! A stay of execution for Chris Kinnear. They are quickly on his back but no doubt the players worked hard tonight. They take credit for keeping going when it easily looked like it could have gone 4s and 5s to the home side.

Way to ruin a perfectly good Tuesday evening, come to the lane! Tonight was disappointing but these last few games just reinforced some well founded sutton clichés. We always bounce back from bad results We play better against the better teams We suck on Tuesdays against weaker teams We don't put teams to the sword (when was the last time we battered someone by 5/6 clear goals? ) I look at this division and I see teams like Eastleigh, Dover and Bromley who are clearly operating at a similar or slightly lower level to last season and will struggle in a much tougher league, whilst we are much better than last year and will hopefully be top half. Sadly we won't be consistent enough to challenge for promotion but cup success could be on the cards as I think we could turn over almost anyone on our day.
How much our turnaround in fortunes tonight was down to losing jc is guess work but it does seem like his influence goes well beyond mere ability. It's very hard to fathom where our confidence went against what was very much second rate opposition, but it would be classic us to go to the runaway favourites orient on Saturday and get a result!

Yep our confidence just evaporated after the penalty award, we allowed them to muscle their way into the match. We stopped using our craft and got involved in an areal battle we were simply not going to win. Tonight was a match for Ross L IMO, he maybe should of replaced Tommy when things were going against us to provide some areal threat and muscle.
Losing JC, I think played a part in the equalizer, his organisation and positioning I am sure would have prevented it? I am not even going to say that JC has been struggling since he picked up the injury at Airdrie, because you will all shout at me, but the IRN BRU cup is costing us point!
We are still in touch with the pack, but at present we are only a top 7/8 team, we need to find more if we are to secure a playoff place come the end of the season..
