I thought it was a nice touch to play The Walker Brothers at half time. Also,my ears are not as good as they were and the speakers are not the best but was that Derek Gamblin? He played in the first Sutton United games i ever watched in the 1965/66 season.

I thought it was a nice touch to play The Walker Brothers at half time. Agreed. There was music too from The Beat (different decade, of course) whose singer Ranking Roger also passed away in the last week.

Hi Billy, yes Derek Gamblin. I don't think I ever saw him play for Sutton (maybe one game) but I did see him play against us for Wycombe and what a player ! Also, having spoken to him at length yesterday, what a nice man. The other Hall of Fame inductees yesterday were Keith Blunt and Paul Rogers. Full story on website

I hate to say it, but without major surgery this summer, we are looking at a relegation scrap next season. I don't think so, I think a season similar to wood if not a bit better. With Dos recharged and a few new arrivals plus departures I'd have every confidence in us staying up. Talk of relegation is as silly as those talking of promotion atm and yes that includes myself in the past lol. This club in my view has reached its sky limit without some financial clout. Thing is there's going to have to be a major rebuild coming soon isn't there, we got a few players combined some entering there late thirties while others are just very unlucky with injuries.

I run the risk of getting shot down here but I'll say it anyway...
I don't think there's much wrong with the side in terms of football. Even if we had the same squad next season we'd be a comfortable mid table. What I noticed for the last 3 or 4 months is the team looking mentally tired. Lots of effort but lacking in creativity. And I think that may reflect the manager. Dos being mentally knackered is evident in the side. It's not pointing the finger of blame at all but does show what an influence the great man has on his team. And all the greatest managers have that same influence. Bairdy has a tough job snapping the squad out of that and it wont happen overnight. Of course you read in other places on social media the know it calls blaming 1 or 2 players in the same way they broke Drinan earlier in the season but that only goes to show why they will never been football managers.

I feel that last three seasons have made such a total transformation to Sutton United that we need to take a step back and appreciate the change to the club, and accept the fact that we need to consolidate our position in the National League for a few seasons without complaining if we don’t finish in the playoffs. At this moment in time we are not EFL proficient enough in both team size or finance and need consolidation which will come with patience. This does not of course apply to the anal Trophy. However much what Andy k says is unpalatable I personally feel that at the moment thats the way it is.

Any news on JC please? He trudged off gingerly and looked like he was in a lot of pain.
Yesterday was frustrating but I still feel like we are a good NL team going through a tough patch of form. Can’t wait for next season with Tommy back, Bradley back and the team fresh both mentally and physically. Some of our players (Dylan and Jonah especially) look like they could be scintillating if they bang a couple in and get a head of steam behind them.
Harry B was (yet again) bloody brilliant yesterday. The ref however had an absolute shocker!

If any new circus is looking for a troupe of clowns they'd be advised to look no further than the FA's list of NL referees; there's plenty of choice after all. Add another to that depressingly long list after yesterday's match where one team it appeared could no right the other no wrong.
I have said countless times I have no issue with ref's giving U's players yellow cards where warranted but only if the opposition is treated in the same manner. Four by h-t for Sutton and I said to kbb we're going to get a red in the second. The only surprise was that it came so late and to a player not cautioned in that first, 45 minutes. kbb's assertion that we have a reputation may be right, U's now top the disciplinary table (according to the nlp) with 85 yellows and 4 reds but is it justified? Was Dale B's challenge a yellow card offence for instance? Ref was legging it across the pitch and couldn't get the card out quick enough (no doubt with a wicked gleam in his eyes). Meanwhile a H&W player straight arms skip across his chin and doesn't even get a chat. Second half Aswad gets booked for handball (not sure it was) yet a H&W defender controls the ball with his arm in a far more premeditated fashion and he gives nothing (the Surrey FA official running the line totally ignoring it too).
Of course Aswad gets his red for a late challenge but how many did they do without any similar punishment?
Somewhere in between another shocking performance by an official a football match took place and U's started it very well and should have had a pen when Brett W had got goal side and was shoved over before the otherwise impeccable Cordner tripped Brett and skip dispatched the pen as he always does. Thereafter, U's got little out of the ref and the next couple of corners ended up with free-kicks going to H&W for who knows what? Jonah Ayunga just failed to control when in front of goal but then H&W started to show some fight and after heading a good chance over, Cordner netted with a fine, low diving header.
The second half saw both sides look to go forward but both defences repelled the best efforts until Aswad was pulled up for handball and Cordner fired the free-kick in to what looked like the corner he had been offered by the way U's defensive wall was set up. Sutton made the changes with Dylan K bright and aggressive and James D offering some quality from the right and Roarie on the left. The equaliser arrived following skip winning a back post header and a mass scramble resulting in a cheeky piece of improvisation from Dean B. There may have been a handball in that scramble but it was not easy to see behind the goal and I thought the ball had crossed the line twice before it actually, officially, did.
It was a bit of justice for U's as H&W players had begun to go down in heaps on a regular basis and they were down to ten after Williams had gone down, trainer had come on and he got up realising there was a set piece to defend before the sponge man got anywhere near him. Too late chum.
It was perhaps a sad irony that the worst injury should befall skip following a total accident. You can tell when a player is genuinely injured; they don't writhe around like so many of the H&W players had throughout (the ref succumbing to them all). Skip didn't move and I suspect his season maybe done.
Another point was the 4th official. The visiting dugout held the ball under the seats for a while at one point the. $th official stood there while they did so and did nothing with the ball he was holding under his arm and then there was Bradbury standing right on the extreme of his technical area as Harry B prepared to deliver a free-kick thus minimising his angle of approach. 4th official did nothing. Bradbury has no class.
That his team couldn't take advantage of the few minutes of the match when they were playing against nine may well be the last screw in their NL coffin being half way in and after yesterday I certainly have little sympathy with Bradbury and his charges if having some with their excellent fans who spent a good deal of the 90 mins getting behind their team.
A performance of fits and starts for Sutton and a draw probably the right result but a costly point losing Aswad for two matches and skip probably until next season.
Onto Boreham Wood (joy).

Yesterday provided an interesting juxtaposition of supporter attitudes to players across the years. In his early days at Sutton, Paul Rogers received a fair amount of criticism from the terraces and yet yesterday he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and is rightly regarded as one of the best players to ever pull on an amber shirt. (Personally, I think midfield might end up being Drinan's best position as his energy and eye for a pass might be more effective but I guess that is for someone else to find out.) It was also interesting that Skip was constantly encouraging Touré throughout the first half and that reminded me of the transformation we saw in Paul McKinnon 30 years ago when the senior players realised that he responded better to praise than criticism. Some on the terraces would do well to remember that players are human beings like us and, like us, sometimes need a bit of positive encouragement. Criticism just ends up being a self-fulfilling prophecy and it is worth remembering that Matt Hanlon, despite scoring the most famous goal in the club’s history, once listed the Sutton crowd as his hardest opponent.
As supporters we have to deal with the hand we are dealt and no moaning is going to change anything for the better, although a bit of positivity might. Even, like yesterday, the vagaries of the M25 has a greater influence on team selection than we do (although that didn’t stop some complaining). My philosophy has always been that criticising your own players only makes the opposition’s job easier and why would anyone who thinks of themselves as a Sutton United supporter want to do that?

Not sure people are complaining that we will not be finishing in the play offs. Rather the fact that we were in real contention in January but have had a very disappointing last few months.

I think people talk of 2 different things, how we are playing now, as opposed to where we have come from. AFCW look although they may get relegated, but then they didn't exist 15 years ago. For me where you come from and advances made are massively important, but should not dwell on them too long. What we do today is someone else's past, they won't be too impressed about us sitting around saying how wonderful it was getting here. We (Dos + Board etc) have moved our bar, and that is our new level, and for whatever reason we have fallen below that since Christmas, and I am sure Dos is not too far away, and will be back like a spring chicken in the Summer with changes
