Obviously it will be possible to replace Dos as manager - as we speak there are 101 clubs in the pyramid doing better than us. But where do you find a manager who, in addition to the football and management skills, has the entrepreneurial drive and vision which delivered the 3G, the ground improvements, the new dressing rooms, even Strikers are Key; has a willingness to invest his own money in the club; and the funds to do it?
I believe that Dos took no salary and paid for the coaching staff from his own pocket, though this might have changed. If it is the case, we probably start next season with a reduced player budget.
I certainly don’t envy the Board’s task!

People were talking about a cross road for the club a month or so ago before the Meet the Manager evening. We are definitely at a cross road now and I have a few fears for the future if I'm honest.
This summer and next season are going to be big for the club and I hope my fears aren't realised. I have the utmost faith in the management committee and board but it will be a very hard act for whomever is next to follow.
Do they go with continuity and appoint Bairdy as the manager (assuming he wants it) or do they bring in someone new with fresh ideas who can build on what Dos has already achieved?
It will also be interesting to see who throws their hat into the ring for the job.

I thought it was interesting to see that on the same day, Lee Bradbury parted ways with Havant. With Havant being a lot closer to Winchester, could we see a straight swap?

I'd say that's probably more of a coincidence at this stage. Our board will be in no hurry to "appoint" a new manager, as it will be much more important to get someone in to replace Dos (which I think is going to be almost an impossible task) who is in their opinion the right choice. We still have a management "team" in place for pretty much a dead rubber on Saturday.

I thought it was interesting to see that on the same day, Lee Bradbury parted ways with Havant. With Havant being a lot closer to Winchester, could we see a straight swap? If dos wants to get straight back into football somewhere more local then Havant could be a perfect fit. Horrendous prospect that dos could be sitting in the away dug out come the 20/21 season! As for a successor, ultimately Bradbury wasn't able to make Havant compeititve at this level, it wasn't an easy proposition but why would you consider a manager just relegated in the same division. Someone like Tim flowers would be my choice, but anyone highly ambitious will be put off by our budget and firm desire to consolidate at national level rather than push on to league football, something that was made abundantly clear in dos's farewell interview. I'm fully behind that stance, dos is right that league football could bankrupt us at this stage, so we need someone who will understand the club ethos, and be happy with an evolution not revolution philosophy. Realistically we are looking at something like a 5 year plan to get into the league, and the first few years of that will be all about surviving and thriving at this level, a thing we have done so well under dos. With that in mind perhaps Baird is the right successor? So much to consider, it's a hugely important decision for the board and I'm sure they will take their time. Get it wrong and we may well be in financial straights and/or dropping back into the south. Get it right and we will remain a very competitive national side while we continue to build the infrastructure required for league football.

Before the speculation really takes off a couple of things to note or remember.
Bairdy replied in i/v a while back to the question "is Dos coming back" that he hoped so otherwise he wouldn't still be there.
Secondly, Lee Bradbury gave a very brave and honest i/v to the nlp regarding a tragic accident that has given him anxiety attacks. Not sure he is in the right frame of mind to take on any management role at present.
Never really a fan of LB but big respect to him after that.

I think Bairdy drove up with Dos from the Southampton area so its a lot of driving. More worrying is that one or two players like Tommy Wright come up from that area and there is the possibility that we may lose them as well.

It is a new era for the club. As tonyd said Dos took no salary and invested in the club out of his own pocket.
Obviously it depends on their willingness but maybe a player-manager would be an option. We have some very experienced players who may want to take a step up.
I don't want to sound pessimistic but clearly - or most probably - we won't be able attract the sort of players that Paul could attract so next season will probably be a bit of a struggle. Hopefully though we can keep the fanbase though.

I wonder Jay Saunders for us, that’s what they think at Margate, what do others think?

Andy Scott would be my choice.

Andy Scott would be my choice. Actually that's a very interesting choice. Obviously connected with Sutton to keep those who feel that the manager must have that connection, but with higher level experience and since his last managerial job has been scouting for Brentford and Watford and has been the Sporting director until I believe this month. Quite possibly the most sensible suggestion I've seen so far!

Lots of talk of Jay Saunders going to you in our neck of the woods (Maidstone) He is a legend as far as I’m concerned, big shoes to fill at your place but given he and Dos are good friends it wouldn’t surprise me to see him take up the reins.

Would take those first 2 finishes right now if offered for next season! Compares favourably with Scott at Aldershot (though aware the club had and has significant issues). Both have had promotion successes too of course.
Steve McKimm will probably be interested. An apprenticeship of sorts at Tonbridge and highly regarded by Dos. Would have been preferable to get out of Ryman and have at least a season in South as a big step up.
Another ex U doing incredibly well is James Bracken at Casuals but again a risky one given the leap in levels and size of club.
Finances may play a big part. Only those at the top will know but if we have to eat into player budget now for management then things will be tricky. We may have made provision for this though, all conjecture on my part!!
And before we (I) get carried away with external appointments of course we may feel that Mr Baird would be an ideal man to pick things up (if indeed he wants it). I won’t presume anything on that as clearly Dos built a good backroom team and was happy with them!
