I love a ground with a big, old-fashioned, open terrace behind one of the goals. Ebbsfleet's has one, though there's cover available if the heavens open. Not so as I recall at ex-League ground Bootham Crescent, where we were penned in a corner of uncovered terracing for the 90 minutes. Fortunately the weather was dry and mild that afternoon. And then there was Aldershot... Ditto. I never understood why we couldnt at least have had a decent height terrace at the colingwood road end, a bit more concrete can't have cost that much. Even Braintrees ramshackle ground has a decently raised terrace at one end. Anyway, it is what it is, until the next cup run or a rich benefactor we must make do with sub par views. At least the bar is nice Now!

I really don't understand those who put down our ground. I haven't visited every ground in our league, but to those who have I ask, are we in the maj or min of grounds that can offer cover on all four sides, and more importantly, when segregated, how many other clubs guarantee to keep their visitors dry? Sorry Kev, I think our ground is one of the worst in the NL. The stand seats are too cramped. The majority of the covered viewing areas are too far away from the pitch and most of the toilets are a disgrace. Even the approach to the ground is uninspiring, is just looks a mess. Do NOT have a pie at Halifax. Appalling doesn't describe how bad they are. however the Three Pigeons pub near the ground do outstanding pies.

At least the bar is nice Now! The way the GGL terrace end is set up is also an odd choice....I understand that it may not be possible to build upwards because of the residents gardens behind (not withstanding finances!!). But when that end was squared off years ago and the terrace built, why was the enclosure set back so far? Closer to the pitch = more noise and atmosphere and logically would impact a little less on the houses behind. Was it crowd H & S? Presumably not as the other end did not follow the same pattern. When there is a large crowd the view from that terrace is not the best. When you look at ground from above its area foot print is large when you consider the relatively small capacity (which i know is due to the old "running track" days). We are always talking about attracting more new/young supporters so offering a great match day view and experience is very important!

There's probably a multitude of reasons (financial, planning, construction, social) why we have what we have at the moment. One could argue however that 3 sides of the ground have better spectator facilities that what was there before. One side is open to debate of course!

I also like Ebbsfleet’s ground and hope we are in the same division next year. Easy to get to with convenient parking. Coincidentally, the splendid film, The Long Memory, is currently on TV, showing what Gravesend looked like 50 years ago. I also thought the match programme was one of the best I’ve seen at this level.

Sutton have the greatest ground in the league, with or without the running track. Great bar which can host really good bands and has a good array of beer at decent prices, really nice food (although in recent years bottled drinks are not served cold). It's also ridiculously close to both train station and bus stop, with the bus linking to Tubes and Trams. Someone really should put a bottle of bleach in the Collingwood Road loos though.

Someone really should put a bottle of bleach in the Collingwood Road loos though. Those bogs were astutely described by one Sutton stalwart as smelling "like the antelope enclosure at London zoo". If we make the second round of the Cup next season then we might be able to afford an upgrade.

Tangled up with detail and legalities for a while but hopefully light at the end of the tunnel.
