Craig Eastmond is still a quality player and would walk into most league 2 teams.

Seems like we’ve learnt our lesson from last year about having far too much turnover over the summer…oh wait.
Think that leaves us with just Craig Clay under contract in the middle of the park and he was comfortably the worst of our options this year and I’ll be staggered if he’s still here in August.

The difference is we are going to play in a lower division. With a new manager. The two situations are not comparable. When we were last relegated we kept 2 players in a squad of 23 or so - Craig Dundas and Alan Bray. The rest of the squad were released. And we got to the play offs at the first time of asking.

The difference between the Ryman league and national league is stark though. Just think a little bit of continuity would help. Beauts and Easty are easily good enough to warrant offering a contract to and would lower the amount of recruitment needed over the summer. Steve’s left himself a hell of a lot of work to do.

Going through the squad list on the Official Site, that "currently" means the following are "scheduled" to be with us when we resume training in July.......................

Whilst I'm gutted as anyone to see them go, that's what the manager has decided. I would expect that Steve already has plenty of targets lined up - as we saw with his loan recruitment he already has more contacts than Matt did. And I can see the logic of building his own side. We do have continuity - there's roughly 12 players already contracted for us next season - including Ben Goodliffe and Louis John. Even putting aside his youth credentials, the latter has been in the Sutton side for the last 10 years, and has played under 5 different managers Dos, Ian Baird, Matt Gray, Jason Goodliffe and Steve Morison.

I just want to say a huge thank you to Craig Eastmond for everything he has done for this club, best midfielder the club has had in my opinion. I’m sure he will be at many matches next season, so a true legend leaving the club, so all the best for the future Craig. ⚽️⚽️

What a sad day for the club and in particular for so many of our former players . I realise that Steve would have released some even without the relegation but to lose so many makes our relegation somehow seem even more depressing than it did on Saturday . I hope that they all find new clubs before too long and I look forward to new signings being announced .
I’ve never been a fan of pre-season friendlies before , a necessary evil for me , but this year I am already looking forward to them for some reason .

Sad day yes, but also exciting, as to see who Steve brings in.
There might be another half dozen ‘Charlie Lakin’ success stories lined up to be added to the squad, and that won’t be a bad thing at all.

Times change.
I am not surprised Eastie has gone as he has been an important player and must have been on a good wage, but he is starting to get on a bit for a footballer, especially one that covers as much ground as he does, as his recent injury setbacks show. I am sure under other circumstances we might have had the luxury or keeping him as a squad player limiting his games, but clearly we are in a position where a change is needed and finances are limited.
Same goes to HB, although I thought being a tad younger he might have had a year extension. A shame we could have not seen them both off under better circumstances 😔
Other surprises was Deon Moore, as I thought he showed promise and could have been handy. Christian NG was also a bit of a surprise.
The mystery with Rose goes on. Clay played quite well under Steve, and I anticipate some important recruitments in the midfield.
Glad we have others under contract as at least we will get a few quid for them if they go. And the likes of Coley, Patrick and Smith wont be too shabby in the Nat league if they do stay.
