So we've had a good start to the season bar the mishap in the FA cup! How do people think we will do come christmas and then the end of the year? Will we come back from the defeat on tuesday night?
As in other threads it looks like our main challengers will come from the 2 promoted teams, Bury and Lowestoft.
Do we think we can have a run in the FA trophy? Do we want a run in the FA trophy?
Thoughts people.

I think our season's gonna tail off near the end, but hopefully by then we'll have done enough to secure the championship!

I am confident PD will sort it out, and that the team will have enough character to put that result behind them and push on. awaiting news on the new signing. Alton Town conceeded another 3 goals on Sat, lost to Greenwich Borough ( Kent League) in the FA VASE!!!!!!!

If the club's serious about winning the league then we needed to get off to a good start - something we didn't manage in either of the last two seasons. Although we've got off to a flier this time, anybody who thinks that's a reliable indicator of how the rest of the season will go would do well to remember 2005/06! The away games against Kingstonian and Lowestoft (FA Cup permitting!) in early October will be stern tests of our promotion credentials. Before then I'm reluctant to commit myself to any predictions.

Every season throws up freak results - those of us who have supported over 20 years will remember the 9-0 thrashing of Gateshead away and still getting relegated! The Alton match, in terms of our league form, could well have been a blessing is disguise!
Winning the league is all about the long haul, and there will be times this season when the squad is stretched and we will dip in form, but we need to stay confident and keep pushing the lads forward. We've made the best start we could have so far, and given ourselves something to build on, rather than playing catch up. 2005/6's start to the season (the last time we were top of a league) I think we all knew at the time that it wouldn't last (See the Kingstonian forum for a similar thing - some of their supporters are saying they've been "found out" by Maidstone) but this time I think we know we are a strong side for this league.
By the time we've played Lowestoft (FA cup permitting) we'd be a quarter of the way through the season. If we get three points at their place (which is looking like the tallest order of the season as well as 3 points at Bury) then we really are on fire.
I've been convinced we will win the league since about 10 mins after the K's match last season. Nothing's changed my mind on that, not even an FA cup result like what we had.
In the next 11 league games we play Harrow, Margate and K's twice. Lets hope the eccentric fixture list provided to us by the Ryman league working in our favour rather than our last season in the Conference South, when it really didnt (Weston getting 6 points off us when actually after November that was about all they managed for the rest of the season)
The league, already at this early stage, is ours to lose. We've got enough experience in management and squad to make sure that doesn't happen

The Alton result has acted as a bit of a reality check. It has shown the lads what happens if they don't take a game seriously. If they learn from that and put in the effort over the next 36 games, we will no doubt finish champions.
With the FA cup a dim memory now, winning the league is all that matters. The eggs are firmly in the basket now.
PD will need to keep the lads focused on the task at hand. The next task is to provide a competant performance agaist Harrow and secure the three points. Once that's done we can move on to the next game.

As long as we don't have a first 20 minute nightmare, a la Ashford Town, after our short break from playing. Then after Tuesday our next game is in another 11 days. Hope we have a full squad to pick from as we definitely need a strong bench.
