Hi guys,
A bit of a random thread here considering the time of the season but...
I'm a Barnet fan and was just wondering your thoughts on Charlie Taylor. I was a bit miffed when we signed him, as unlike often when you sign a non league player, I'd heard no hype over him. I think he's played about 90 minutes worth over two games as he's been injured since, the first game he came on as a sub and looked okay and the second he looked completely lost (as you might expect for a while).
Do you lot think he's good enough for League Two? If he's that good why was he at Croydon during pre season?
Cheers.
P.S Thanks for Bailey by the way!

My opinion - I didn't think he was good enough of League 2. We released him in the Summer, and he joined Croydon (at that point the biggest payers in the league) - when that went all Pete Tong, he ended up with you.
I didn't really rate him, although he did score 12 goals for us last season. Mind you I didn't rate Solomon Taiwo, and I've been royally proved to be wrong.

Average at best. Can't believe he ended up at a league club. Wealdstone at home was about the one good performance I remember.

Andy, no we did not release him in the summer. Charlie had a contract with us until May 2011 and that remained in place, he was however told that he could look for another club as we had signed Richard Jolly. THere's a big diffrence.

Solomon's been loaned back to where he came from so maybe he's not cutting it after all. Charlie wasn't great and I too was shocked he wound up where he did. Not that I could do much better.

Thanks for the correction - I did wonder why there was a hoo ha when he played for Croydon whilst still a Sutton player this season!

Charlie was probably one of the best strikers Dos has brought to Sutton in the last two years however the trouble is everyone wants so much more from the front men these days.
He scored an absolute cracking goal on his debut against Bognor and his ratio of goals to appearances was ok but he did very litttle to support the rest of the team play and needed someone to set him up (Sam Gargan) rather than the other way round.
I spoke to him after his last game for us in the SS Cup Final and he was so low after missing that penalty (having put us one up) he probably felt it was time to move on.
I think he is a good player myself.

It was a Flipping awful penalty in the cup final.
A shame really cos he was a decent player for us and was always happy to chat to people about his game etc and it would have been nice if he could have moved on having scored the winner in a cup final even if it was just the Surrey Cup.
Bit of a bad boy image (possibly justified) but if he gets match fit, concentrates and picks up a bit of confidence he'll do well for Barnet.

There's no doubt that Charlie is a talented player, and I would say that if he applies himself in the right way then he could be a success in the professional game. To get the best out of him, the Barnet management team would need to show they've got faith in him.
