Just back from a freezing Ashford, we thoroughly deserved the 3-0 win and maybe should have had a few more. Maidstone did not have a shot in the first half with their only sniffs a couple of long balls otherwise it was all us. Tom's opening goal was from a brilliant chip over the defence to leave it on a plate for him, and the second came from Forbes from a low hard cross, although only a yard out had to get between 2 or 3 defenders to put the ball in the roof of the net. Second half was a lot more open with Stones throwing caution to the wind which saw a little flurry at the start of the half from them but almost immediately a superb cushioned header put my MOTM through to power home from the edge of the box. We continued to open them up at will and it was surprising we did not add more, although Stones were more of a threat and Kevin yet again made himself immense in goal and in my opinion the best keeper we have had in 30yrs, made one world class save in the last few minutes.
What I liked about today was our shape, we controlled the midfield and looked confident with the ball there and picked the right passes rather then aimless balls forward.
We can really hurt K's with a win on Tuesday and its about time there was some payback!

KBB summed that up - Kev, you've lost it mate!
Today for the first time in a while we looked like real title contenders. Maidstone looked worse than Croydon in the first half, but thats more to do with the fact that we looked so much better. To say it could have been a lot more than 3-0 was an understatement. We've not played this well since Ks and Lowestoft.
We were without Page, so Murray stepped in at right back and Kes moved centre. A real difficult choice for MoM - Dundas caused trouble wherever he went, Both Tommy K and Forbes had their best games so far in a Sutton shirt - Forbes's great knock on to allow Davis to get the first was especially good, and Tommy's first senior goal after a lovely touch from Jolly to nutmeg the keeper was a real reward for all the effort he put in. There was no weak player today, but for me the player who shaded it was KES, got stuck in and did some mighty fine defending when needed to.
We needed 6 points from these last 2 games, and we got them. Today we had something to spare and after bemoaning about how we are struggling to score, only Cray have scored more than us. We're now 6 points clear of Ks. If Hastings do us a favour tomorrow and we beat the Ks on Tuesday, we'll be 9 points clear. Lowestoft have a tricky midweek trip to an unpredictable Canvey team. Today could go down as one of our best performances of the season.
All that would have topped it would have been Wayne Shaw coming on as an outfield player. That would take some beating....
Oh and if I remember rightly, this is our first victory against Maidstone since our return to the Ryman - One Bogey team we have beaten. Now for another one on Tuesday I think...

A good performance. Ball retention was excellent because the team played almost exclusively through midfield with long balls kept to a minimum despite the uneven pitch. Everybody was involved in the play and all players played well. Kes looked great in the middle of defence but everybody put in sound performances and it would be difficult to pick out a MOTM. It was so good to see us not reverting to a long ball down the middle but instead moving the ball quickly and accurately around the pitch. Clearly this performance impressed the locals who rated us as "by far the best team they have played this season". A third of the way through the season and so far so good. There will be stern tests to come from those teams at the top but also importantly from those just outside the top bunch who we haven't yet met. However, if we can play with the same confidence and freedom that we did today we need fear nobody. (BTW What a good keeper we have!)

Comfortable win, always on top, although Scriv again made some telling interventions in the second half.
Three good goals, a fine team performance and an excellent performance from young Tom K, rounded off with a well taken goal.
Dundo was immense and as said earlier, the shape of the team was really good.
Good to see Mr Walker get beaten three times, although to be fair to him he made three good saves in the second half and, for once, took the banter well.
BTW OS, if you think that was freezing today then you obviously weren't there when we drew with Margate a few seasons back; now that was freezing.

Arguably our best performance of the season, and a much easier win than I expected, although Maidstone were really poor in the first half. They upped their game after the interval but by then we were already 2-0 ahead, and a third Sutton goal early in the second half meant we could see out the game quite comfortably. Sam Page's absence meant that this wouldn't have been Dos's preferred line-up, but the formation seemed to work really well. Kes looks more assured at centre back, and Murray slotted in effortlessly at right back. Tommy Kavanagh started and repaid the manager's faith by putting in probably his best performance yet in a Sutton shirt, scoring that sumptuous third goal. Dundo's barnstorming performance up front helped to create space for Forbes and then his replacement Jolly. There could be one or two selection dilemmas for Tuesday.
