I'm not at all suprised that it's gone to Russia, and unlike others I don't really smell the whiff of corruption. I can't believe some of the arrogance in regards to the English bid either. I think the new location will add something new to the world cup that Milton Keynes or Sunderland couldn't really. It's a nice legacy for Sepp Blatter, who took the world cup to Asia, Africa and now to the worlds largest country which straddles Europe and Asia.
But as for Qatar 2022.........

Erm Putin didn't go coz he already knew the result. TBH I'm glad it's gone there instead of the other 2 in competition. They have 8 years to sort their racism out and hire 10 million KGB agemts to follow everyone around.
Qatar is a bit of a joke and if it really isn't done right there could be serious health issues with the players. Air conditioned stadiums!! Is it a dry state?
I think there is a real chance that these World Cups could be a disaster but the guy from Paraguay won't care as he's likely to have died by then. The others won't be too far behind!!
2 votes are a joke but as has already been said the FA and England are hated. We will not hold a WC in our lifetime.
Didn't Mexico hold the WC twice in 16 years?

By the time we get to host a World Cup, I will either be dead or at the very least be incapable of wiping my own arse. Thanks for sharing that with us. ;D I hope I am around to see your second option! I am glad that my old black and white telly showed us winning the WC on 30/07/66 - happy, glorious days when we thought we would win it many times in the future. How wrong were we? English football got stuck in a time warp and the Germans and Dutch joined in with Brazil in showing the world how to play the game. Then Rupert Murdoch's SKY arrived and money sloshed into Player's and Agent's pockets along with the catastrophic influx of Foreign players - good to watch but making it that much harder for English players to play at the top level. Now most people put club before country.

JR, Mexico were down for the 1970 world cup, and Colombia were due to host the 1986 World Cup, but pulled out in 1982 for 'economic reasons' so it went for a bid of american continental states and Mexico beat the US and Canada for it

To answer jr, Mexico did hold it in 1970 and 1986, but I'm pretty sure the latter was as an emergency replacement when Colombia (I think), who it had originally been awarded to, decided or had it decided for them that they couldn't host it, and so FIFA needed a ready made replacement in the same area at short notice.

I believe this was the last time that continental rotation will be used. Because Brazil won the 2014 by being the only S American bidder! So the 2030 WC will probably go to Uruguay/Argentina or one of those, it is the competition's centenary after all.

Sorry to say I called the result. Russia were always going to win 2018 it as it's a new place to have the competition. Qatar were always going to get 2020 so Sepp could make himself look even more godly.
I'm happy for Qatar and it's not just because I like small rubbish nations! If they get the stadium cooling right it'll be a totally different cup to what we've seen before. They said they'd export all their stadiums bar one to poorer countries too once it's over so there's your sympathy vote ensured. Good luck to 'em I say but they will lose every game about 8-0!

Andy - given the times against our postings I think it's more a case of 'great minds think alike', or possibly 'fools seldom differ'. Your posting's far better informed than mine though!

The ironic thing is that Russia got some votes because getting the WC would help them bring their grounds up to modern day standards. In England we have been building new stadia for years to be able to show the World that we have the facilities ready, even training grounds. Even my "other team" LCFC were encouraged to move from Filbert Street so that they would have a chance of holding a WC match - then were dumped in favour of MK Dons. Our grounds are ready now. On another sour note how is FIFA going to stamp out racism in Russia?

On another sour note how is FIFA going to stamp out racism in Russia? The same way they've dealt with all other undesirable fan related issues for the last few WC. Price the average man out. Simple. No knuckledragger is going to pay $100 for a ticket just so he can throw bananas and make monkey noises. Problem 'solved'.

Not really sure why we bothered. Because we'd be even more of a laughing stock if we didn't? Meh.

One thing that's come to light over the last 24 hours...Boris has cancelled the offer of free hotel stays at the Dorchester for FIFA delegates during the Olympics.
Isn't this "promise" exactly the same as attempting to bribe the officials in exchange for a vote? Which is what everyone is up in arms about regarding the winning bids....

The Scots and Welsh wouldn't even join an Olympic team with us! We tried. They dislike us more than FIFA! A UK bid is out of the question.
