Two of Sutton's former league rivals are close to being wound up for unpaid tax debts, according to today's NLP.
Windsor & Eton (now in the Zamaretto Premier) owe around £50,000 and are due in Court this Wednesday. Unless a last minute rescue package materialises, that looks like the end for the road for them.
Welling Utd have until 15 December to find nearly £60,000 or they too could go under. The club is pinning hopes on a bumper crowd at next weekend's Trophy tie away to Luton. They'll also be praying that the weather relents enough for the game to be played.

Good news for W&E: the Court's granted them a 56 day stay of execution in which to try to come to an agreement with their creditors.

Welling seem to have found £50k of that, although the money from the Luton game can't go towards it for various reasons. I hope Welling do manage to get out of the stick, they are one of my favourite other non-league clubs

Sorry Andy! I fecked up your post by editing it instead of quoting it, like what I wanted to do! Got the text back, but lost the URL. Long day.

I just left the innernetz alone after that. Might have broken something else the way I was going!

Welling fans have now raised all the money immediately owed, so the winding-up threat looks to have been staved off.

The more I think about the Windsor situation, the more it bugs me. They've been resolutely mid-table all season and have known since October that there were issues tax wise. So why since October has there been no wholesale binning of the squad? Even if they've a budget of a grand a week, thats something like 16k 'saved'. Almost a third of what they owe HMRC. Because if someone is funding a side, then why can't they fund the f*cking tax bill instead? I just find it utterly pointless to plough on paying people to play football when all you're going to do is shrug and go "oh well, we can't afford 50k for the tax man, we'll just fold" three or four months later. Just doesn't make sense to me. And you can bet the tax since Oct probably hasn't been paid either. I hate seeing clubs go under, but it really is getting bloody silly now. Why do clubs STILL think they can get away with not coughing up to HMRC when they've been agressively going after football creditors for the last couple of years and have publicly said so? Madness.
