On-loan striker striker Andy Forbes reckons the winning mentality at Sutton United is approaching that of his glory days at Eastleigh.
The 31-year-old front man has seven goals from 11 appearances for United since switching from Woking on a three-month deal.
Forbes spent six years at Silverlake Stadium and played a major role in the club’s meteoric rise from the Wessex Leagues to the Blue Square South under Sutton boss Paul Doswell.
He is one of five players to have played for the Gander Green Lane chief on the south coast and returns to his former club for Saturday’s FA Trophy second round clash.
And Forbes reckons his new team is ready to repeat the success the Spitfires enjoyed starting with dumping Ian Baird’s men out of the cup.
“Paul has got a very good squad together and I’m enjoying being here at the moment,” he said.
“He has always seemed to be able to attract good players and that is what he has done at here. He must be a very good negotiator.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing for him and the feeling in the changing room at Sutton is similar to how it was when we were winning things there.
“Coming back from 3-1 down at Wealdstone is a good sign of that. To win games with out playing well is the mark of a good team and the mark of a promotion winning team.”
Sutton - currently six points clear at the top of the Ryman Premier League - fell at the first hurdle in the FA Cup and Forbes admits that is a major motivation in getting past his former club.
“I had a great time there so it will be nice to go back and all the boys are looking forward to it,” he added.
“The boys are out to redeem themselves for going out of the FA Cup and the prize money we get will only help the budget.
“I speak to a lot of the players at Eastleigh and by the sounds of things they have the best squad they’ve had for some time.
“We go there as underdogs and that could suit us in a one-off situation.”
