Well its very rare that a Boxing day or equivalent game serves up a feast of football. And on a near frozen surface, it certainly seemed that was the case today. Well done to Carshalton for getting the game playable, although of course they didn't want to lose their biggest money spinner of the season.
First half saw two teams who looked like they they'd never played together in their lives. The xmas food, the poor playing surface and the fact that many games had been called off in December led to a scrappy first half with two teams lacking in sharpness. Thank goodness for us that Mr Scriven was probably the only player on the pitch that didn't lack in that department. The first goal was timed to perfection, literally just before half time, and another amazing Forbes looping header. 2nd half we widened our play (something we failed to do in the first) and were the stronger team. It was only a matter of time before we got a 2nd, and BWG duly obliged. The game was over by that point, and Carshalton had little to offer. I can see them being mid table at best this year.
Low points of the game was 3 needless bookings. All for silly things - Dundo falling over I thought was a little harsh, the Murray free-kick was just bizarre and Tommy K's was a little silly.
Still 3 points is 3 points. Its the old story or never looking at the table until Xmas. Well, i'm looking now and its looking good. It really is in our own hands. Hopefully Bury v Lowestoft happens tomorrow and any result really will be good for us. Also hoping that Tooting pull off an upset by beating Ks tomorrow (although I hear its not a happy ship there!)
Well played lads

There wasn't a lot between the two sides in open play, but Sutton seem to be rediscovering the knack of scoring from set pieces. Two late corners allowed us to snatch three points in our last league match (exactly a month ago!) against Wealdstone, and today it was two free kicks that led to our goals. The first was a well-placed header from Forbes who otherwise made little impact on the game but proved the value of having an experienced finisher in your team. The second followed a terrific header back across goal by Dundas with Bradley W-G applying the coup de grace. It's exactly this sort of scrappy game that we need to win if we're going to push on and claim the title. We're now six points clear, without a major backlog of fixtures, which is a pretty good place to be going into the New Year. And yes, well done to the guys at CAFC for getting the game on. And thanks for putting the real ale on!

First off well done to CAFC for getting the game on today. Felt we overcame a banana skin today. Not a classic performance by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly job done. I thought Kennedy had a great game in midfield today, he was key to most of what we did right today. I don't think the bobbins offered to much upfront to be honest, and whilst we didn't get to many chances, we made the best ones count. Very pleased with the 3 points today. Hopefully Bury and Lowestoft will draw tomorrow......... Thought our support was great today. And 'Gay snood' is the chant of the season 100% league record in December - nice one!

We get a mention on the BBc Non League Show courtesy of www.twitter.com/theballisround who has kindly provided me with the link, approx 22 minutes in: goo.gl/eTOJB edit - just listened and it's a good piece but bear with it, there's about 5 minutes in total although Jols getting flattened by Justyn Roberts can't have been seen by the sounds of it!

Great result, if not a great spectical.
Well done to all the Robins staff for getting the game played at all. I'm sure they'll be counting the gate recipts rather than licking their wounds.
Only hope that Jolly and BWG are not too badly hurt so they can enjoy their new year and turn out against Tooting.
ps. All hail the mighty snood!!!

Not much to add really. Not a classic by any stretch, but one of those games you've just got to make sure you take your chances when they come. Super header from Forbes and again from Dundo to set up the 2nd.
Speaking of Mr Dundas, how was that not a pen 2nd half? He got to the ball well before the 'keeper and it looked like there was contact as he went past (Pics seem to back it up as well).
Still, 3pts in the bag. Onwards and upwards.

Not sure if this has been linked from here already - I've lost track to be honest so apologies if it has! From The Ball Is Round - theballisround.co.uk/2010/12/28/mr-jolly-moved-next-door/Was never going to be a classic game given the state of the pitch, but well done to them for getting the game on Job done, 6 point lead going into 2011 - another derby on New Year's Day against a struggling Tooting which we need to win to build up a bit more momentum now

Don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but that was Byron Harrisons last game for the bobbins. He has been snapped up by Mr Westley at Stevenage, and joins ex Sutton loanee Darius Charles and the wonderfully timid Mr Ashley Bayes

The 'Robins Elite Development Squad (REDS)' sounds like the youth wing of an unsavoury political party.
