Well, Bury Town put a bit of pressure on us by winning their lunchtime game at Billericay, but our players responded by beating Canvey to restore our seven point lead. Not much sign of bottling it there! I gather that Bury can consider themselves lucky to have taken all three points yesterday. According to the NLP report, Billericay probably should have been awarded a stoppage time equaliser when the Bury keeper appeared to carry the ball behind his line but the assistant referee was badly positioned and so wasn't able to signal a goal. Bury's remaining six fixtures include two very winnable home games (against basement clubs Croydon Athletic and Maidstone), two that look quite hard to call (away to Cray and home to Wealdstone) and two tough away games (against us and Lowestoft). You'd expect them to get maybe three wins and a couple of draws from that lot, which would take them to 78 points - only four more than we have now. OK, they may do a bit better than that but equally they could do worse. Even if Bury were to win at GGL in two weeks, we'd still be ahead of them on points and the leadership would be ours to lose. It's all very much in our hands, and reaching the 80 point mark (two more wins required) should see us almost home and dry. Meanwhile, Bury might be more concerned about hanging on to second place than overhauling us. Tonbridge are just five points behind them with a game in hand.
