Rushden and Diamonds, Hayes and Yeading, Havant and Waterlooville, Hampton and Richmond.....
So, how about Sutton United and Carshalton Athletic getting together for a 'fast-track' to the Football League? We are all 'Sutton Borough' after all!
Sutton Borough FC?

Christ, not this old chestnut again..... No offence to the Bobbins here, but why would us merging with a traditionally Isthmian league side with a poor financial history and crowds less than half ours actually drive us on to the FL? Just doesn't add up. I think Gareth said it best though when the Ex-Spurs\Liverpool player Paul Walsh raised this subject in conversation with him at one of the recent gents evenings. "F*ck off!" ;D

The sale of one ground or the other would generate a HUGE income.
Many league and non-league clubs have moved ground in recent decades in order to develop.

Both grounds are council owned. Neither club would benefit from their sale.

Forgetting local rivalries for a while - neither club will benefit from a merger, its that's simple. not financially, not in terms of significant increase in support.
Pointless

The Borough would surely (?) takle a borough-wide view and transfer the funds.

From memory, I don't think Hampton & Richmond was a result of two teams merging. Think Hampton just changed their name to try and draw in crowds from a wider area.
Not sure on any economic reasons behind it but I wouldn't be keen on Sutton and Carshalton merging. Just wouldn't seem right.

Err no. Have you seen the struggles local councils are having at the moment?
It's a big emphatic no so please drop the subject.
I see H & Y are moving to Yeading's ground hopefully sometime next season. I thought it had gone! Apparently they wanted to stay at Church Road as it's a bigger ground but it's also worth a hell of a lot more than Yeading's ground. If only they had the foresight that they would merge in the future perhaps they wouldn't have spent all theat money they got for Sir Les on their ground.

There is nothing to be gained by a merger as far as I am concerned, we don't want anything to do with Dipre and a lot of our support already comes from that side of the Borough.

Non starter end of. They wouldn't want it, we wouldn't want it. Simple. Not even worth raising.

Hey we have no problem with a merger. Just three small conditions: We play at Colston Avenue We wear maroon We are called Carshalton Athletic (nice ring to it don't you think?).
Look forward to welcoming you all soon.

Have you checked all of that with Democratically Elected El Presidente for Life? Especially the bit about the colours. Wouldn't want to stuff up his marketing strategy or any ongoing 'synergies' he may have for the brand.
