"Who's the w*nker in the gloves?" sang the 'Fleet faithful as Cloughie went down with what appears to be a thigh injury. His name is Jason Brown and his four terrific saves kept U's in the match and earned him the MOM award to boot.
The visitors were well on top in the first half, stronger and playing with more purpose than U's who struggled to with the wind on their backs and then hampered by the skipper's retirement.
That they scored from a terrific free-kick from McMahon was what they deserved but then after, Dos made the change and put Dundo up front and U's came to life. JT's superb finish levelled, SD's persistence, touch and finish gave U's the lead and then JT headed home on his knees after Kane had found the woodwork for a second time to complete what looked an unlikely victory after the first hour.
Not sure whether Ebbsfleet thought they had the game won and took their foot off the gas or if U's stepped it up or it was a bit of both but their midfield (in particular the otherwise impressive McMahon) stopped being the dominant force they had been and it was U's who had all the momentum for the last 30 mins or so.
MOM JB yes, best outfield player for the 90 for me was Kane but the team showed great character to overcome the loss of Charlie (SD take a bow), go 1 down and rally to such a level that 'Fleet looked a spent force at the end.
Ref did better than he has a reputation for today, although the arm in Cloughie's face early on went unpunished but he did try to allow the game to be played without countless free-kicks in what was a physical encounter.
Great 3 points but I hope not at the expense of Cloughie.
Great travelling support too today. Well done to the 'Fleet fans for that.
One more point will confirm our play-off qualification.
