The Final is being played tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, 7.45pm kick-off at Corinthian FC in Kent (near Brands Hatch) For anyone wanting to go along, location and map can be found here. It's not the easiest place to find - just keep going down Valley Road and you eventually get to a very small track that leads to a hospital. Not long after that track there is another turning that takes you into the football club/golf course complex. If we beat Mr McKimm's new lot tomorrow evening, it will secure a unique quadruple for James Bracken's Reserves team and will be the SEVENTH trophy that James (and a number of the current youth team) have secured for the club this season!!!

If we are prepared to overlook the FA Youth Cup, that's seven out of seven for James Bracken's teams this season. A magnificent and probably never to be repeated achievement.
Many congratulations to James, the coaching and support staff and all the players.

Good effort that. There was talk last season that Suburban sides may join the Combined Counties League at division 1 but it was voted out by CCL clubs. Time for a re-think?

Yes but are there not U21 leagues now run by the Ryman?

The performance of James' Reserves is all the more remarkable when you consider how many away games they had to play in the various cups:
Home 2 (one of which was the home leg of a two-legged tie and in the end was actually played at the away ground) Away 9 Neutral 3 (three finals)
Even the one game where the opposition withdrew was scheduled to be an away game.
Am I being paranoid?

I watched the Suburban Shield final and for what it's worth here are my observations:
There have been times this season when Sutton Reserves have played great football and blown teams away. The final against Tonbridge wasn't one of those days. The game didn't start well for us with the opposition team clearly fired up and with Steve McKimm in the crowd, sensing their opportunity to break into the Tonbridge first team picture. When they took the lead in mid first half it was well deserved and at half-time they probably felt a little aggrieved to be going in all square. Sutton, for their part were struggling to get their game together and looked very flat.
But it is at these points that you begin to understand why this Reserve team has won every competition it has entered. The mental strength of the group is very impressive. When things are going wrong they simply refuse to let it affect their self-belief. And this is really what this game was all about. The Sutton team kept going, kept working and kept believing and eventually things turned. After that, a Tonbridge victory became increasingly unlikely and were it not for some sloppy finishing Sutton would have won the game in regulation time.
In essence, and although Sutton had that little bit of extra quality, the difference between the two teams in this game was how they reacted when things were not going their way. As I said, Sutton refused to allow the game to get away from them, no matter how difficult things seemed to be. Tonbridge, on the other hand, faded when things turned and you could sense their belief draining away as the game went on.
A very well done to James Bracken and to every lad who played this year! I for one am very proud of them.

Just thought you might prefer fresher challenges? Fair enough. I think we all would SB but it's not all about us and what we want. There are other clubs that would be badly affected.
