Unfortunately it clashes with my grand-daughter's wedding. I wish the club would ask me before arranging these fixtures. Luckily I've been to Winchester before, otherwise I'd be really pee'd off. Incidentally I have nine other grandchildren and one more on the way, so I'm concerned this sort of clash might happen again.

Those of you who are going to Winchester may be interested to know (either positively or negatively!) that the yearly "Hat Fair" takes place that weekend, which is the longest running festival of street theatre in the UK. Expect the town centre to be a lot busier than normal, for those who like to partake in visiting the local pubs... www.hatfair.co.uk/

Winchester is a lovely city, and has pubs to match! There are six currently in the Good Beer Guide. For the keen and thirsty, it's possible to do a circuit of all six in the order below, starting and finishing at the station, and with Winchester City FC between the fourth and fifth. (Or you may prefer to do them in reverse order. ) St James Tavern (3 Romsey Rd SO22 5BE) Just up from the station and city centre, a prominent end-of-terrace Wadworths pub that also serves food and real cider. Opens at 12, so maybe one to miss (or come back to later!) if you arrive early. Wykeham Arms (75 Kingsgate St SO23 9PE) Classic, Georgian, multi-roomed pub, between the cathedral and Winchester College. Owned by Fuller's. Food served, but the pub is popular with tourists and is a bit pricey. Opens at 11. Black Boy (1 Wharf Hill, SO23 9NQ) Pick of the bunch IMO, and tucked away near the river, this rambling pub is crammed with bric-a-brac and will have some interesting local ales on plus real cider. Good food. Bishop on the Bridge (1 High St SO23 9JX) Smart, riverside Fuller's pub at the bottom of the High Street, popular with diners. Hyde Tavern (57 Hyde St SO23 7DY) Ancient, timber-framed pub - watch out for low ceilings and uneven floors! Usually a good choice of ales, plus real cider, but no food. Albion (2 Stockbridge Rd SO23 7BZ) On the crossroads just down from the station, this tardis-like pub can get rowdy (by Winchester standards). Three ales on, but no food at weekends. Opens at 12.

Hello from Winchester!!! We will be delighted to see Sutton fans at the game on Saturday. You can be assured of a friendly welcome - and as well as the game, there is a fantastic "hat fair" in the City Centre. Loads of free entertainment, and more pubs per square mile than any City in the UK!
Dossie lives in Winchester, but don't let that put you off!!! Admission is a paltry £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. See you at the game!
