There have been one of two comments in other threads about this match, but it's probably worth a thread of its own, in view of the opposition.
I should think the players look forward to a test like this, daunting though it is. In the corresponding fixture last year, the speed of thought, close control and technical ability shown by the Chelsea lads were of a standard we just don't witness at our level. I would equate the challenge to that of reaching the third round of the F.A. Cup and facing a half-decent Championship club.

Yep probably would have done a thread nearer Saturday but we can like this into a match thread.
Will be a good test for us this one playing against one of the best Under 21 sides in the country but like Dos alluded to last year after we played them there's high financial incentive of staging games like these for the club.
Very much looking forward to seeing the new ground developments that have been made during the summer.

looking forward to the game Saturday should be a good day.
Chelsea youngsters are of course very talented and whilst none will ever make the first team, it's not because of having no talent because they don't give anyone a chance.

Well, you might be surprised. Nathan Ake played in the friendly last year, having already had numerous first-team appearances, including some in the Europa League! He's now part of Mourinho's first team squad for this season so he probably won't be coming along on Saturday, but the splendidly-named Rubens Loftus-Cheek should turn out and I'm willing to bet he'll be graduating to the first team at some point in the next couple of seasons.

Despite being named a Chelsea U-21 side you never know a couple of fringe players might be involved seeing as Chelsea aren't on tour this summer and their first game is on Wednesday..

Nortei Nortey is indeed a belter of a name.
As for who might play against us on Saturday, I would expect pretty much the same kind of thing as last year - one team of Chelsea youngsters in the first half and a different eleven in the second. I'm looking forward to it.

Well,I shall be down for this game. I dont know what I'm looking forward to most, the mighty U's, Chelsea's talented under 21 squad, or maybe our new stadium.

Went and had a sneaky look at the ground on Monday before heading home and have to say it looks fantastic. Bumped into Dos and the team and told him how impressive it looks. A massive thank you to him and all the workmen involved. The pitch ain't half bad too!!

Well, low key match in a stifling heat watched by a decent crowd of 1700 plus. Hats off to Tom Lovelock today, a fine performance and key to the match ending 0-0 with the help of a couple of uprights. Perhaps this crop of CFC youngsters was not as good as last season's visitors or maybe we are just better. Difficult to say.
But the real star of the afternoon? The Ground. GGL may still have its faults but the improvements are fantastic. The covered terrace at the CR end is of course most welcome but after 40 odd years standing on the curved terrace a penalty box plus some from the action I did have a very small pang of regret. A bit like losing an old acquaintance.
However, it was the new pitch perimeter fence and the astro turf walkways that really made the difference in smartening up our home. It is amazing to consider how old and dilapidated the old one really was when you look at the new. Loved the top of the main stand too and the removal of the old and tired advertisement boards.
All in all a massive, impressive improvement and it will be interesting to see the reaction from The Legends when they see it next Saturday and play on the pitch that too looked superb. Well done to all involved for the planning, design and not least, of course, the financing of such a well executed project. Proud to be a U.
Can we now just sort out the PA system please? lol
Better go, thunder all around. Need to hide!!

walking into the ground today actually felt like a dream. Anyone moaning about anything that's been changed is quite frankly an idiot. Every single change that has been done from the dugouts to the stand to the new fencing to even the butchers grass is a huge improvement on what was there before. Talking to Mr Frake before the game, he quoted "This ground is ready for the conference" and he's bang on the money. We've gone from having a charming although probably quite unsuitable ground for the modern era to having one totally fit for purpose in a matter of weeks.
As for the game, subdued but both teams were well matched. Very different to last year.
