Shame for sure. Only missed one season of membership since the SL started in 71/2.

It is sad news.A lot of clubs have latched on to this academy idea but i have my doubts whether any will go forward to be first team regulars. There are a lot of good young footballers who also consider their academic studies to be just as important and will not go down the academy route as the training & day time matches take up too much time.

It's more than a shame and it's more than sad - I find the wisdom of that decision very questionable. The club did the same thing 15 years ago during the doomed 99/00 season in the Conference. We had no fresh faces to call on in the last couple of months of that season and just slid to defeat after defeat after defeat. The reserves were reinstated the season after.
What does it mean for players like Ollie Sitch and Emil Salama? Would they be eligible for the U-19 team next season?

Although its sad to see the team go, it has not provided too many players to the 1st team, but it does lose the opportunity for players returning from injury to get some good playing time under their belt.
One problem our reserves and youth sides suffer is lack of good opposition, the introduction of a U19s side that plays in the conference will be a little tougher, and that should be good for the 1st team.

For whatever reason (and this has been a long standing point of debate) the reserves are not making the grade significantly in our first team. The last one I can recall who significantly made an impact to me was Tommy Kavanagh and even then I did think he was probably the weakest player in a good squad. I agree it will be sad not having a reserve team, but as a club our focus has to be the first team - it would be crazy to think otherwise, and if the new structure will help improve the overall strength of the first team then I'm all for it.
Personally I've not had much interest in the youth/reserve setup in the last few years because it seemed like to me that the competitions they were/are playing in are below their talents (again, this isn't having a go, as there were reasons for this) - but a player will not improve in my opinion by their side winning 4-5 nil every week, in the same way that they won't improve if they get stuffed 4-5 nil every week too. I think the current set-up isn't allowing those players a decent chance to progress, so if the new set up gives them a better chance, then I'm all in favour.
I'd love it if we were in a place where the reserve side was a natural stepping stone to first team (and beyond) football, but sadly the 80s/90s is a long time ago and we have to adapt and survive.
One possibility could also to build up a relationship with a smaller club to act as a bit of a feeder to us, so those players who are building up fitness could be signed on dual reg with them to get some game time - we benefit due to players building up fitness, the player benefits by getting competitive game time and the feeder benefits by getting players with talent beyond that level for a few games. There are certainly enough Combined Counties level sides locally that could be approached (forgive me if that's too simplistic - I don't know the ins and outs in terms of FA rules on how feasible this could be)

(It isn't us btw)!

Not if that means Dipre, getting into the club by the back door

Not if that means Dipre, getting into the club by the back door That's as likely to happen as Whitehawk playing in the Conference North next season.

Mole Valley SCR have changed their name back to 'Sutton Common Rovers' for next season. With us and Carshalton getting 3G next season this has got me thinking...

I'm sure I read somewhere that MVRFC had merged with Dorking Wanderers, I also recall a chap called Darren Salmon (ex Sutton Manor) being their manager and he was from Sutton Common area so it may be some form of break away as a result of the merger - or I could be totally confused!

It is a direct name change. SCR merged with MV Predators a few years ago and are now really SCR with Darren Salmon who still lives in the SCR area as The Manager. They want to come back and play in the Sutton area (currently play at Cobham, I think)hence the name change back to their original. They started off as a Sunday club so have come a fair way.
