We have had some great players at Sutton but if those fans whose memory stretches back to the 1970s were asked to name their CULT HERO, then the name of Norman Milne would be just about top of the list. The height of Nelson's Column, the swagger of Stan Bowles, that tache (!) and the touch of Lionel Messi. What more could you want in a footballer ?
Well, we heard from Norman today. He is living in Scotland and is not having the best of time with his health, although he hopes to get down to a game in the new year. So, if you can spare a thought for the big man and send him our love then it can't do any harm, can it.
Get well soon Norm !

I swear I saw him beat all eleven Tooting players (& all the Mitcham players too) before scoring. A great player - Good luck Norman!

And then there was the Tuesday night at Bishop's Stortford when he beat at 6 defenders along the 6 yard line (most of them at least twicw) before scoring.
Get well soon Norman!

Do people remember the old 6-a-side tournament ? I saw Norman dribble round the opposition and goalkeeper but rather than score he ran back to his own goal with the ball and then beat everyone again before scoring.
And that hat-trick against Staines !

....for those of a certain age, and older.!!!! It was sad to learn of the passing of Billy Robinson who played for Sutton in the mid/late 50's. I remember him well, he being an inside forward ( whats that) and in the side that won the Athenian League Championship title, before being invited to join the Isthmian League, the side also won the London Senior Cup. He was well known for his goal scoring abilities and signed for Chrystal Palace. It those days Palace and Sutton had a strong connection, and so it is tonight that Palace are at GGL, to cut the ribbon on the new pitch!! RIP Billy.
I also wish Norman a speedy recovery.
