So as I was flicking through the programme last night, the centre spread of fixtures reminded me that we're currently in the middle of five consecutive home games (owing to postponements/home cup draws). My question is (to anyone who's bored enough to look up) what's the most amount of consecutive home games we've had during a season?

Another one for you, when did we last play a game without using a substitute?

Another one for you, when did we last play a game without using a substitute? That would be pre Dos as he loves to bring on all 3 during games.

Or players a rest of course!
The opposite could be said for John Rains of course. Many times he didn't use any subs. Talk around the terrace from a few was so the club wouldn't have to pay them appearance money, but no idea if that was true!

I am not going to look up every season but through my anorak recall I remembered a run of matches during the 83/4 season and on looking it up we actually played 8 consecutive home matches covering the whole of the November fixture list. The end of the 92/3 season saw 6 consecutive home matches followed by 6 consecutive away matches.

Another one for you, when did we last play a game without using a substitute? Purely as a point of interest, one game when we didn't use any substitutes was up at Norwich in 1989!
Barrie Williams was a superb manager, but that was one instance when I was a bit disappointed in him for not giving the subs five minutes to remember the occasion by. It wouldn't have done any harm - we were 8-nil down for Pete's sake! The two subs on the day were Justin Horner and Graham Morris and I imagine they were a bit gutted not to get on.

Don't forget JR played a lot under Barrie Williams so a few things must have rubbed off. Barrie once told me that he thought very carefully about each starting eleven and if he made a substitution that was like admitting he had made a mistake.

Sign of the times I guess. But that strikes me as a funny thing to say given that subs aren't always tactical (if a player is injured, for instance) or can be influenced by a change of tack by the other team. But hey, the guy was old school
