I think we should include the Amateur Cup in that question... I remember going to Prestwich Heys in the Amateur Cup the week before the Leeds game. They are a Manchester club. We lost

www.prestwichheys.com/a/history-8293.htmlThousands flocked to see Heys play, and beat, the likes of Sutton United, Ferryhill Athletic, Finchley and Highgate United in the FA Amateur Cup with the clubs best run taking Heys to the last 16. The victory over Sutton United in 1969 ranks as one of Heys most famous moments, attracting nationwide coverage, coming a week before their opponents were due to meet Leeds United in the FA Cup.

The most recent trip up north was an Amateur Cup tie at Spennymoor in February 1974 - we won 2-0.

Bishop Auckland in a Trophy replay in 1989 is the most recent Northern cup tie I can remember. We lost 2-1 (I think)

Otherwise in the FA Cup Kidderminster both knocked us out of the Trophy and the Cup in recent years at Aggborough. And if I recall correctly, the first game at GGL against Auckland saw the debut of one Efan Ekoku who came on as a sub?

I think it's in the North East, like Spennymoor.

For the younger fans like myself who haven't ever seen us in the Conference Prem the Curzon game is practically a European tie! Nah, that was the Jersey game. Surely that one was an international friendly?

Sure is - they're neighbouring towns!

I've just checked how far it is to Curzon Ashton's ground should it go to a replay - a mere 228 miles from GGL. We do not want that!

Spennymoor 1974, Bishop Auckland 89, (both at least 150 miles from me) Kidderminster 2013 (which is South West of Birmingham)...not much for Northern exiles to get excited about. The Prestwich game goes back about as far as i do!!

This is strange... It's a shorter journey by 7 miles for Curzan Ashton to travel to us in the conference south, then to Lowestoft ... Fellow members of the conference north .. Hehe !!

One reason why we have to go far back to find some of these is the regional nature of the earlier rounds. Unless we made significant progress in either competition, we didn't have any chance of drawing a "northern" side. And of course even when we do, like getting into the first round proper, we still have pretty much as much chance of drawing a southern side - like when we've draw Hereford, although of course we can't forget the Notts County trilogy.
Even in the 93 Trophy run, after it went national we pulled Woking, Chesham and Wycombe out of the hat.

I decided to watch a bit of Curzon this morning on their youtube channel.
Look a very decent side. They try to play from the back and have a player in wide area who likes to run in behind the full back so Wish will need to be on toes.
They played some really nice stuff. All in all i fancy our chances but we will have to be at a better level then we were at on Monday but i'm sure we will be.
Really looking forward to this!.

Just looked at a map - hadn't realised how far north Scarborough is (league and Trophy opponents in '86/87?)

Firstly, Ashton is in Tameside, not Manchester Also I lived in Manchester for 4 years and we never came close (geographically or competitively) to playing near by. Typical. Luckily I have friends near Ashton who need visiting should we go to a replay
