Well, after almost 50 years of watching there was a first for me today. I have never seen a christmas tree taken to a game before !

It was a superb performance from the team. Maybe man of the match could have gone to Ross in goal. He performance was near perfection. The only thing I'd like to see him improve is his kicking. One today went at 45 degrees into touch! It's not the first time I've seen him spanner a kick upfield. But an excellent custodian nevertheless.

Goes without saying that the team played superbly and the result was fantastic but I agree that a set of away fans bringing a six foot tall real Xmas tree was another highlight.
They claimed to have brought it all the way from St. Albans on the train and were going to take it back too. Makes a change from away supporters in fancy dress or bringing a drum I guess.
Made a good afternoon just that little more entertaining. We are looking seriously good right now.

You wait a year for a hat-trick from a Sutton player then two come along in consecutive games. Following Dundo's first treble for us against Lowestoft it was Fitch's turn in the limelight today. Congrats also to Tommy Wright for his first Sutton goal. This was our biggest win of the season, and I think a result like this has been coming for a while. But, as others have said, St Albans were by no means the worst side we've played since August. Ross Worner had a much busier game than on Monday, and Saints came close to scoring straight after our opening goal when they broke down our right and struck a post. They understandably lost some impetus after we made it 3-0 shortly before half-time, but Worns made a terrific save in the last ten minutes, getting across to a shot that was curling away from him. It was good to see Dan Spence getting some game time as a late sub. This was his first appearance since being injured at Bath in mid-October.

Have to feel for St Albans today. We have played far worse teams this season but their open approach to the game left them at the mercy of our speed and movement and their defence had no answer but for some last ditch blocks. U's could have doubled the five with a little more composure but that would be to discredit an excellent attacking display.
City had their chances, particularly in the first half with their no 11 hitting the outside of the post and looking lively. Fitch's first came from a well weighted pass by Tom B and that was what did for St Albans all afternoon. Martin is a big obstacle but the way round him was on the floor with the movement to match and U's produced that on many occasions.
Stearny's goal was a lovely low volley and Fitch's third through the legs of the 'keeper. A powerful low drive.
His hat trick goal was another great finish and he was only denied a fourth by a good save from Joe Welch.
After that fourth goal we took our foot off the gas a bit and made some changes. Fleets brilliant finish was ruled out by a lino's flag. Would like to see that in the highlights. The guy gets no luck.
The fifth came out of the blue. Another slide rule pass along the deck for Tommy to produce a lovely finish for his first goal at this level. That we never added to the score was probably a mystery but credit to City for continuing to push forward and testing the U's defence that after a couple of early scares protected Ross before he had to make one fine stop late on.
The ref had a good game, if a little lenient at times. We've had him three times this season and he has performed pretty well overall. However, not sure the caution late on was necessary having chosen to keep his cards in his pocket for so long. City were guilty of a number of fouls throughout but sensible officiating meant no yellows until that late card. Shame.
The scoreline equalled U's best ever win over City (August '63) and successive hat tricks for the first time since Lennie Dennis scored a hat trick in successive matches in November 1988 (that's assuming you don't include Ollie Morah and Dom Feltham both scoring one at Hayes in September '93.
Well done to the City fans who kept on singing well after the match had ended. I got soaked walking home but it was well worth it; great afternoon.
SSC next, weather permitting and then Curzon Ashton. Will the latter be Dundo's 399th or 400th?
Not for the first time an error, I missed the fact that Craig Watkins & then Leroy Griffiths scored successive hat tricks Sep/Oct 2011. I wouldn't mind, but I have a separate list of treble scorers and missed the Watkins/Griffiths entry.

Well, after almost 50 years of watching there was a first for me today. I have never seen a christmas tree taken to a game before ! I think it was the tree in your Clubhouse. We spotted it resting at the foot of the Main Stand by the tunnel at HT & assumed it was put there by some SUFC peeps to get it ready for disposal. A Stalebuns fan took it about 5mins into the 2nd half and walked it round to the away section
I think it was their Sutton suuporters' branch

They turned up with the tree around ten to three, I said they could bring it in as long as they didn't do anything silly with it and we opened the side gate so they could get it into the ground.

The tree came from The Plough according the St Albans fan I spoke to who is slightly more famous for setting off a flare in the Rec end about ten years ago

I had to dodge one on the pavement between W Sutton station and the ground around 1:30. Don't know if it was the same one. But their train travelling fans would certainly have seen it.

Flares are too common these days we were always ahead of the times, give it 12 years and everyone will be taking a Christmas tree to football The Plough didn't want their tree back so it ended up on the platform at St Albans City station Only good thing about that pub is the jukebox Good luck for the rest of the season, if we don't meet next season then hopefully it'll be because of your promotion and not our relegation

After Saturday's win we're now the top goalscorers in the division with 44 goals, and have the joint best goal difference with Ebbsfleet of +21, with 20 of those goals coming in the 8 league games since the 1-0 loss at home to Hayes & Yeading, whilst only 3 have gone in at the other end. Which is pleasing considering one of our big concerns earlier in the season was with the low number of goals being scored
